How To Play Squash: A Beginners Guide to this Popular Sport

The sport of squash is an exciting and challenging activity for all ages and abilities. Talented squash player Marc Bistricer indicates that this sport combines elements of tennis, badminton, table tennis, ultimate frisbee and more. It is a game that requires a high level of accuracy, power, and speed all while being played with a small ball on the court, which makes it one of the fastest sports around. But how exactly do you play squash? There are many different types of squash games to learn and new players need to understand the rules before they can jump in. Here are some tips from Marc Bistricer for learning this fun, fast-paced sport.

How to Play Squash

Marc Bistricer shares that there are many types of squash games to learn and new players need to understand the rules before they can jump in.

Here are some tips for learning this fun, fast-paced sport.

Types of Squash

Marc Bistricer shares that there are two types of squash: singles and doubles.

In singles, players take turns hitting a small ball back and forth in a game of rally point. The first player to score 10 points in the rally wins the game.

In doubles, two players hit the ball back and forth against each other in a game of rally point. The first team to score 10 points wins the game.

Marc Bistricer shares that players then alternate between playing singles and doubles until one team reaches 41 points or until the time limit is reached at which point they will play an additional match.

The winner of that match will be the best out of three games, with a tie-breaker if it's necessary.

The Basic Rules

When playing squash, there are many different rules that need to be followed in order to ensure the safety of all participants. You'll want to learn the basics before getting started. Marc Bistricer shares the basic rules for squash that you should know:

- The player or team who scores 10 points first wins.

- A match is played over four games and each game consists of three rallies.

- After every rally, a player or team is allowed one point (shot) at the opponent's front wall.

- If a rally ends with an ace (the fastest shot possible), the player or team scoring it gets two points instead of one.
