  • Students Should be Grouped by Intelligence and Ability (Episode #11)

16 DEC 2018 · No one in their right mind would criticize a coach for creating a homogeneous team entirely made up of top-notch athletes rather than a heterogeneous football team comprised of a mixture of poor, medium and great players. Yet educators are vilified when they even suggest something similar. One of the main problems with heterogeneous groups is that students of intelligence and ability are assigned second class status. Their education rights are sacrificed to satisfy the education needs of the many. If we can all agree that winning is the ultimate goal in football, we should be able to comprehend that academic excellence is the ultimate goal in education. For students of higher intelligence and ability, heterogeneous grouping stands as impediments to attaining that goal.

  • There are no Group Rights (Episode #10)

8 DEC 2018 · As a libertarian I am tolerant of all individuals no matter what religion, sexual orientation, sexual identification, etc. But when the National Education Association and others look to protect the "rights" of certain minority groups, they are actually creating special privileges for those groups. Only individuals have rights. The government is there to insure that all individuals are considered equal under the law.

  • Emotional Committments vs. Facts

8 DEC 2018 · There are three different topics on this podcast. The main one revolves around the fact that you are wasting time trying to convince people on social media of a point of view. Why is that? Because most people are so emotionally committed to their ideas that facts don’t matter. So stop wasting your time. This is true for individuals on all parts of the political spectrum by the way. Be honest, you think you are correct about what you believe also. I also update you about my upcoming court case to defend against an unfair stop sign ticket in Pennsylvania. Http://www.stop-sign-ticket.com Finally, I talk about how millennials think that the government actually provides things for free. Listen for the details.

  • Do Millennials Really Support Public Schools (Episode #8)?

25 NOV 2018 · The National Education Association posted an article entitled: What Do Public Schools Need? More Money and Strong Unions, Say Millennials. Really? Millennials support public education? That sounded fishy to me so I checked out the survey upon which the NEA article was based – Education in America: The View of Millennials by the GenForward Project. Turns out that the NEA cherry-picked parts of that survey to make its case. Listen as I give you the FULL story.

  • Legalize Heroin (Episode #7)?

25 NOV 2018 · As a libertarian, I have always been in favor of choice when it comes to taking drugs. But when pressed, I still had difficulty when asked about hard drugs like heroin. The typical response from family members and friends was: “You mean you want heroin available just like alcohol or marijuana? Are you crazy? A highly addictive drug like that? You want your children to be able to buy heroin at the local drug store?” I never felt that I had a good answer to this issue until I read a book called Chasing the Scream by Johann Hari. Of course, I still believe that an individual should be able to put anything that they want into their body – no matter how damaging it might be. But the argument in favor or legalizing heroin discussed in Hari’s book has nothing to do with this.

  • "Teacherism" - The Victim Mentality in Public Education (Episode #6)

10 NOV 2018 · Unions are HUGE advocates of what is called social “justice.” The essence of social “justice” is the idea that everyone is potentially a victim. Why not add teachers to the list of the oppressed? We can call it “Teacherism.” After all, haven’t we heard the stories about how many teachers have to work a second job just to make ends meet? And how about that teacher that has to sell her own blood in order to pay the bills? That sure sounds like legitimate oppression to me. Where is the justice for teachers? As technology advances, market forces will make so many of the workers “protected” by unions irrelevant. In essence, unions are nothing more than an organized attempt to exchange the future for an impossible perpetual present. In this sense, although they are often described as progressive organizations, they are, in fact, quite conservative in their goals.

  • The Artificial Market for Public Education (Episode #5)

10 NOV 2018 · When most people think of government intervention, they have in mind burdensome rules and regulations that harm businesses and the economy. But not all of them work this way. Some interventions establish a set of “artificial conditions” which actually help certain companies and industries. The public education system is an excellent example of this. It was created by government intervention and to this day it relies on certain “artificial conditions” provided by the state for its very survival. Listen for details.

  • Life Imitates Seinfeld & Teachers and Traffic Tickets (Episode #4)

10 NOV 2018 · Have you heard the expression that life imitates art? Well, if you consider the Jerry Seinfeld show a form of art, this statement turns out to be true. What am I talking about? Fans of Seinfeld will certainly remember an episode called “The Maestro” where: “George decides that he should help a security guard who works at Susan’s uncle’s store and must stand all day … [so he] … delivers a rocking chair to the security guard, who falls asleep in it; the store gets robbed as a result.” Well, Walmart just had a $65 million dollar settlement with its cashiers who sued to be allowed to sit on the job. These cashiers should enjoy the settlement money while they can – soon automation and the minimum wage laws will put them out of work. The other topic on the show compares jerk teachers who write-up students and give out detentions all the time to jerk cops who give out tickets rather than warnings just to raise revenue.

  • Public Education and the Taxi Medallion System - Ominous Parallels (Episode #3)

10 NOV 2018 · When I started doing research about this issue, I was struck by the parallels between the taxi industry and public education. My immediate question was: “If Uber and Lyft have destroyed the government monopoly taxi system, does the same fate await the government monopoly education system?” Taxi drivers have been using the power of the government since 1937 to protect their monopoly status – teachers have been doing the same since unions were established. My guess is that most teachers would agree that Uber and Lyft are the better bargain. But I also know that there are many teachers who don’t see the connection between the efficiency of the free market system for transportation and the LACK of efficiency in the system of public education. I am not saying that the end of public education is near. But I find the parallels interesting … and somewhat ominous …

  • Climate Change is not "Settled Science" (Episode #2)

10 NOV 2018 · This podcast deals with two topics: 1) Real Bravery 2) Climate Change Really brave people stand up for an opinion under political, social or cultural pressure which can potentially destroy their lives. For example, take the early Abolitionists who spoke out about the evil of slavery before the US Civil War. Abolitionists in the 19th century espoused views considered radical as far as their society was concerned and they paid a price for this – sometimes with their lives. When you do what is popular and easy – when you conform – you are not being brave. Instead, you become a lemming. You join the crowd and follow it where ever it leads… Now, when I read about the Palestinians in Gaza who are actually sacrificing their lives for the cause, this point is even more clear. Then I discuss the recent United Nations study about how eating meat is causing Global Warming. But human caused climate change is not settled science by a long shot… Listen for the details.
