All about Foot-and-Mouth Disease! The European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD), based in FAO HQ, Rome, Italy.
5 SEP 2024 · Karima Ouali, risk manager for foot-and-mouth and similar transboundary animal diseases at the European Commission for the Control of FMD, focuses on risk-mapping activities implemented in the European neighborhood, against the framework of the EuFMD work programme.
Establishment of a Syndromic Surveillance system model for early detection of FAST diseases - Jordan
7 AUG 2024 · Animal health surveillance in Jordan plays a crucial role in the early warning system. By detecting animal diseases promptly, authorities can take necessary measures to prevent their spread and safeguard both human and animal health. The syndromic surveillance system, which monitors symptoms of endemic or emerging diseases, is particularly valuable. Jordan’s adoption of this system, supported by an Electronic Integrated Disease Surveillance System (EIDSS), enables rapid responses to cross-border diseases. Join Dr. Saeda Salah, manager of the Electronic Integrated Disease Surveillance System in Jordan as she discusses Syndromic Surveillance adoption in Jordan
31 JUL 2024 · Controlling FAST diseases increases the resilience of livelihoods, improves trade conditions, and enhances food security. Join Valentina Busin, EuFMD Capacity Development and Learning Specialist, as she shares insights into the EuFMD's "Move FAST, Get prepared" strategy. In this episode, Valentina discusses the organization's efforts to control Foot-and-Mouth and similar transboundary (FAST) diseases through targeted capacity development and investment prioritization. Discover tools that support safer animal trade, collaboration with international organizations, and the assessment of socioeconomic impacts of FAST diseases.
17 JUL 2024 · Welcome to a new podcast episode! Marco De Nardi, Associate Professor of Animal Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology at the University of Bologna, discusses the key role of Syndromic Surveillance Systems in our current Anthropocene epoch, where global challenges like climate change, intensified livestock practices, and emerging diseases pose significant risks. Listen to this episode, to learn more about the importance and power of data and to find out more about how Syndromic Surveillance Systems function as part of the broader surveillance framework.
3 JUL 2024 · In this episode, Marcello Nardi, Programme Learning Lead at the EuFMD, speaks about the cascading concept. He explains how veterinarians, after participating in EuFMD training courses, can spread their newfound knowledge to colleagues, creating a powerful multiplier effect. Discover how EuFMD supports this process through various tools and resources, including presentations, videos, and microlearning. Marcello shares insights on the impact of cascading and the importance in the overall capacity development of veterinarians.
20 NOV 2023 · In this episode, Alex Drouin, an Expert in FAST Risk Management and Modelling Support at the EuFMD, introduces his research on "Rift Valley fever modeling in the Western Mediterranean basin" and the challenges of working with entomological data. The study focuses on the emergence of the Rift Valley fever virus in the Mediterranean region, emphasizing the risk of viral circulation, particularly in the Western Mediterranean basin. The research assesses the vector competence of key mosquito species and employs modeling to assess the spatio-temporal variations in the risk of virus transmission in the region.
