24 SEP 2026 · A conversation with endurance sports coach, author, and nutritionist Matt Fitzgerald. He is the author of 35 books including Dying to Run, An Athlete's Quest for One more Finish.
"When Matt Fitzgerald is struck by long COVID, his lifelong passion—running—becomes a distant memory, leaving him trapped in a failing body that simply won’t cooperate. After authoring dozens of books and articles on athletes pushing the limits of human endurance, he is now forced to confront his own limits in ways he never imagined. Doctors have no answers and every day feels like an endless loop of misery and mental fog, but Fitzgerald is determined to reclaim his life and his passion."
We talk about his book Dying to Run and his experience contracting and living with long COVID and I ask Matt to describe long COVID to the listener. We also talk about what went through his mind having to face the potential possibility that his endurance sport activities would be over, and his desire to go out on his own terms. We talk about how he is feeling now and how he has rebounded.
Finally I get Matt's opinion on AI and it influence on training and racing for the athlete and the coaching experiences.
