5 MAY 2022 · Shannon D.M. Moore is an assistant professor of social studies education in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, at The University of Manitoba. Her research interests include media and digital literacies in the social studies classroom, the impacts of online learning on teachers and teaching, and the impacts of neoliberalism on public education.
In this conversation, we explore Shannon's research that uncovered the way that online teaching has negatively impacted the way that teachers have come to see themselves during the pandemic.
Her article in Our Schools/Our Selves, "Self Checkout Education: The deprofessionalizing, dehumanizing and demoralizing impacts of online education" was co-written by Bruno de Oliveira Jayme, a Brazilian art educator and an assistant professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba.
5 MAY 2022 · Before becoming a secondary teacher, Shannon Salisbury (she/them) worked in public education, community development, and social work. Her teaching practice is deeply informed by her experience of being a parent.
Shannon's article in Our Schools/Our Selves raises concerns around the idea of "returning to normal". We need to attend to the students who were already being marginalized, if not harmed, by the way things were being done before the pandemic.
