    27 OCT 2021 · Over the course of a career first responders will deal with thousands of critical incidents. These can be difficult, challenging and at times emotionally draining. These can be everything from family fights to fatal traffic accidents to even murder. But there are those calls that just stand out and are forever lodged in your memories of the men and women who have to deal with them. This is especially true when these calls involve innocent children who are the victims of violent crime. On September 16, 2009, in the city of Westminster at about 6:30 in the morning Kristin Kannard was working a dispatcher and Cameron Knauerhaze was working patrol when a horrific call came in. A woman had just stabbed her two little girls. What happened was a life changing even for both of them.

    16 APR 2021 · Let’s face it there’s a lot of issues law enforcement has had to deal with the past few years but one of those hot button issues has been the way police deal with those persons who are considered homeless.  The problem isn't just  restricted to one city or state it’s a nationwide issue with many organizations using a variety of approaches.  I recently interviewed Anaheim Police Chief Jorge Cisneros and Jessica Bruce from the Anaheim Community Care Response Team where we discussed their new partnership. The problems related to homelessness, the police and the community are a nationwide hot button issue. There have been different approaches across the county from homeless outreach teams to aggressive enforcement of existing laws. But most are just bandaids for a problem that is late and complex.

The Anaheim Police Department is taking a different approach in a collaborative effort with City Net, a non-profit organization that works specifically to address homeless issues. They have formed the Community Care Response Team in a partnership with the city in an attempt to find more effective and lasting solutions to homeless needs in the community.
