28 AUG 2026 · For thirty years, Dennis Rader moved through a quiet Wichita neighborhood as a husband, father, church council president, Cub Scout leader, and city compliance officer. He was also BTK — Bind, Torture, Kill — the serial killer who murdered ten people between 1974 and 1991, taunted police with letters and poems, then vanished into silence for thirteen years.
This opening chapter traces the full arc of Rader's double life: the methodical planning behind the 1974 Otero family murders, the escalating need for recognition that drove him to write to newspapers, and the chilling normalcy he maintained between kills. Rader didn't hide who he was by suppressing it — he genuinely inhabited both lives simultaneously, each real to him in its own compartment.
Then came 2004. A local news anniversary segment caught his attention, and the silence broke. Rader began communicating again — letters, packages, encoded messages. He asked investigators directly whether a floppy disk could be traced. They told him no. It was a lie. The metadata on that disk led straight to Christ Lutheran Church in Park City, Kansas. A deleted file carried the name Dennis. Within weeks, one of America's longest-running cold cases was closed.
This episode also examines what his capture meant for the people closest to him — including his daughter Kerri, who later wrote about the father she thought she knew — and why Rader's narcissism, the need to be seen as exceptional, was ultimately more powerful than his instinct for survival.
The BTK case is not just a story about a killer. It is a story about how ordinary structures — community, authority, routine — can conceal the most extraordinary evil. This episode includes AI-generated content.

28 AUG 2026 · Dennis Rader didn't hide in the shadows. He knocked on your door, led Sunday worship, and organized the Cub Scout meetings. For thirty years, the man Wichita knew as a diligent compliance officer, church council president, and community volunteer was also the BTK killer — responsible for ten murders between 1974 and 1991.
This episode examines the operational reality beneath the double life. Rader didn't act on impulse. He stalked his targets for months, learning their schedules, mapping their vulnerabilities, waiting for the moment when they would be completely alone. His first confirmed attack — the murder of four members of the Otero family on January 15, 1974 — showed a killer who arrived with a fully formed methodology, not someone experimenting. Bind. Torture. Kill. He named it himself.
What makes the BTK case so psychologically disturbing isn't the violence alone — it's the compartmentalization. Rader sustained six-year gaps between killings, resumed with the same patient precision, and never unraveled. He wasn't suppressing guilt. He was running two separate operating realities simultaneously, apparently without conflict.
The episode also traces how the case finally broke: the taunting letters to the media, the poems, the thirteen-year silence that ended in 2004, and the floppy disk Rader sent police — after asking whether a disk could be traced — that put him in a courtroom and earned him 175 years. His daughter Kerri's decision to write publicly about her father adds a final, haunting layer to the story of a man who hid in plain sight for three decades. 29 AUG 2026 · Dennis Rader killed ten people in Wichita between 1974 and 1991 — and got away with it for thirty years. Not because he was invisible. Because he was hiding in plain sight, serving as a compliance officer, leading a church council, running a Cub Scout troop, and living inside the same community whose fear he had created.
This episode follows the thread that ultimately unravelled him: not the murders themselves, but his compulsive need to be known for them. From the first letter he directed to a Wichita newspaper in October 1974 — hidden inside a library textbook, describing Otero family murders that hadn't been made public — to the taunting poems about his victims, the clinical dispatches to investigators, and the thirteen years of silence that preceded his catastrophic return in 2004.
When local media began revisiting the cold case, Rader couldn't stay quiet. Letters arrived at TV stations. Packages turned up in parks, cereal boxes, manila envelopes on stop signs. He was prolific, engaged, feeding the attention that had fed him. And then he asked investigators a question that ended everything: could a floppy disk be traced?
This chapter also examines Kerri Rader's decision to write about her father — a man who taught her to fish and tucked her in, and who was, in the same weeks, something else entirely. The compartmentalization wasn't fragile. It was load-bearing.
The 175-year sentence handed down in 2005 closed the legal chapter. The questions it left behind are harder to close. This episode includes AI-generated content.

30 AUG 2026 · Dennis Rader evaded detection for three decades — but in the end, it wasn't superior police work that caught him. It was a question he asked himself. Before mailing a floppy disk to investigators in 2004, Rader asked whether it could be traced. Police said no. The metadata led straight back to him.
This episode of the BTK series focuses on the thirteen years of silence between 1991 and 2004 — one of the most misread chapters of the entire case. Rader hadn't died, moved away, or burned out. He was still in Wichita, working as a code compliance officer for Park City, presiding over Christ Lutheran Church as council president, and leading a Cub Scout troop. Parents trusted him with their children. Neighbors voted him into leadership. He wasn't overlooked — he was promoted.
What sustained the silence wasn't self-restraint. Rader's drive was rooted in control, not compulsion, and for thirteen years, his legitimate authority roles fed enough of that need to keep him quiet. Then a 2004 book about the unsolved BTK murders told his story without him controlling the narrative. That, apparently, was intolerable.
Rader broke cover not because a dark impulse cycled back — but because he felt a book hadn't gotten it right. He resumed contact with police and media, more prolific than he'd been since the 1970s. Each communication was a potential evidence trail. Investigators kept him talking. Then came the disk, the question, and the arrest on February 25, 2005.
His daughter Kerri later chose to write about him. His sentence: 175 years. This episode includes AI-generated content.

31 AUG 2026 · For thirty years, Dennis Rader attended church, issued code violations, and led Cub Scout meetings — while secretly holding onto souvenirs from the ten murders he had committed across Wichita between 1974 and 1991. He had named himself BTK: Bind, Torture, Kill. He had written taunting letters to police and newspapers. And then, for thirteen years, he went silent.
What broke that silence was ego. A book about the BTK case was being written without him. Rader couldn't tolerate someone else narrating his crimes. He re-emerged in 2004 with a new wave of communications — cereal boxes left around the city, packages, cards, letters — and eventually sent investigators a floppy disk after asking, through a newspaper ad, whether such a disk could be traced. Police said no. That was a lie. The metadata on the disk led directly to Christ Lutheran Church and to Dennis Rader.
He was arrested in February 2005. At sentencing, the judge handed down ten consecutive life terms — 175 years. Rader stood in court and described each murder in clinical, self-satisfied detail, as if the courtroom were finally the audience he'd always wanted.
This episode covers the full arc of Rader's capture and sentencing: the floppy disk question, detective Ken Landwehr's decades-long pursuit, the collapse of Rader's carefully constructed double life, and his daughter Kerri's decision to write publicly about the father she thought she knew. The horror of BTK was never only the violence. It was how completely ordinary he appeared to everyone around him — until he wasn't. This episode includes AI-generated content.

1 SEP 2026 · Dennis Rader didn't just kill. He performed. Between 1974 and 1991, he murdered ten people in and around Wichita, Kansas — and at every stage he made sure someone was watching. Letters to television stations. Notes hidden in library books. Poems describing his crimes with theatrical self-importance. He even invented his own name: BTK. Bind, Torture, Kill. The branding was entirely his.
Between killings, Rader lived inside ordinary American life with extraordinary discipline. He raised children, sat on church committees, cited neighbours for code violations as a compliance officer, and eventually became president of his church's congregational council. The violence and the domestic routine coexisted without friction because Rader had split himself into two operating modes — and each ran without interference from the other.
Then came thirteen years of silence. After his final murder in 1991, BTK vanished. No letters, no killings, no contact. Investigators couldn't confirm he was alive. The fear had no target.
In 2004, he decided he wanted recognition again. Fresh packages arrived at Wichita media outlets. Cold case detectives suddenly had new material. And Rader — confident he'd outmanoeuvred law enforcement for three decades — made one fatal miscalculation. He asked police whether a floppy disk could be traced. They told him no. The metadata on that disk led investigators directly to his church.
This episode traces the full arc: the Otero family murders in January 1974, the pattern of surveillance and selection that defined every killing, the letters that gave investigators a window into his psychology, the long silence, the return, and the question that ended thirty years of invisibility. 2 SEP 2026 · Dennis Rader didn't hide. He led. For thirty years, the man behind the BTK murders held positions of authority in his Wichita community — compliance officer, church council president, Cub Scout troop leader — while concealing a secret life of methodical, organized killing. Ten victims between 1974 and 1991. Then thirteen years of silence that investigators feared would never break.
This episode follows the full arc of Rader's double life: the 1974 Otero family murders that introduced BTK to Wichita, the carefully selected targets he stalked for months, the taunting letters and self-authored poems he sent to newspapers and police demanding recognition, and the six-year gap between killings that led the public to hope the threat had passed. It hadn't.
When Rader resumed contact in 2004 — prompted by renewed media coverage — his need for credit overwhelmed his caution. He sent packages. He sent a floppy disk. He asked investigators directly whether a disk could be traced. It could. Metadata on that disk led detectives to Christ Lutheran Church and to Rader himself.
In 2005, Dennis Rader pleaded guilty to all ten murders and received a 175-year sentence. His daughter Kerri later chose to write publicly about her father, confronting the wreckage of a family built inside a lie.
This is the story of a man who weaponised trust, collected legitimacy the way he collected trophies, and was ultimately undone by the same ego that drove him to kill. This episode includes AI-generated content.

3 SEP 2026 · Dennis Rader didn't hide in the shadows. He ran the block association, led Sunday services at Christ Lutheran Church, issued code violations for overgrown grass, and coached Cub Scouts — all while committing ten murders across seventeen years in and around Wichita, Kansas. This episode is the chapter that asks the question at the heart of the BTK case: not just how he killed, but how he stayed invisible for thirty years.
We begin on January 15, 1974, with the Otero family on Edgemoor Street — the first four victims of a methodical predator who had spent months studying their routines before cutting the phone line and entering their home. From there, we trace Rader's killing pattern across nine more victims: Kathryn Bright, Shirley Vian, Nancy Fox, Marine Hedge, Vicki Wegerle, Dolores Davis, and others — each selected through a weeks-long predatory research process that Rader himself named Bind, Torture, Kill.
But the murders alone don't explain the case. What defines BTK is the communication — the letters to Wichita newspapers, the taunting poems, the drawings, the narcissistic hunger for recognition that drove him to write and, ultimately, to be caught. By 1991 the killing stopped and the letters stopped, and Wichita moved on. Then in 2004 he came back. A compliance officer. A church president. A father. A killer. And a man who asked investigators whether a floppy disk could be traced.
His daughter Kerri later said reading the FBI reports felt like reading about a stranger. In the ways that mattered to her, she was right. This episode includes AI-generated content.

4 SEP 2026 · On a quiet Tuesday morning in January 1974, Dennis Rader broke into a Wichita home and killed Joseph Otero, his wife Julie, and two of their children. The crime scene told investigators everything — and nothing. Every victim had been bound. The killer had brought his own cord. Nothing of value was taken. Wichita police had never seen anything like it, and they had no suspect.
This episode covers the opening chapter of one of America's longest unsolved serial murder cases. We examine the Otero family — who they were, how they came to be in Wichita, and why they became targets. We trace Rader's own background: a man who had served in the Air Force, recently returned to the city, and had been fantasizing about binding, torturing, and killing since adolescence. He called it his 'factor X.'
Months after the murders, a letter appeared inside a library book, signed with an acronym Rader had invented for himself: BTK — Bind, Torture, Kill. It was the beginning of a decade-long correspondence with police and media that mixed operational detail with grotesque vanity. He wanted recognition. He wanted Wichita to know his name.
We also look at the double life that made him invisible: compliance officer, church president, Cub Scout leader. Rader understood that respectability was camouflage. His positions gave him authority, access, and cover — and for thirty years, it worked.
Ten victims. Seventeen years of killing. Then silence, until a floppy disk ended everything. This episode includes AI-generated content.

5 SEP 2026 · For thirty years, Dennis Rader lived two lives in the same Wichita neighborhood — and the distance between them was invisible to everyone around him. Compliance officer. Church council president. Cub Scout leader. And responsible for ten murders committed between 1974 and 1991. This episode follows the full arc of concealment: how Rader selected and stalked victims with the same methodical attention he brought to enforcing municipal code, how he signed his own ritual with the acronym BTK — Bind, Torture, Kill — and how his compulsive need for recognition drove him to contact newspapers and television stations even as investigators closed in.
After the murder of Dolores Davis in January 1991, Rader went silent for thirteen years. Wichita wondered if BTK was dead. He wasn't. He was still there, still holding trophies from his victims — bloody clothing, personal belongings — hidden on family property. What broke the silence was a newspaper's anniversary coverage of the Otero murders in 2003. He couldn't stand being forgotten.
In 2004 he began writing again. Letters, packages, cereal boxes mailed to police and media — each one a bid for attention he couldn't suppress. Then came the question that ended everything: could a floppy disk be traced? Police said no. He sent the disk. Metadata on the files pointed to Christ Lutheran Church. A username read 'Dennis.' The rest was inevitable.
Sentenced to 175 years in 2005, Rader never walked free again. His daughter Kerri, who remembered a father who coached and attended church, later chose to write publicly about what she'd lived with. This episode examines the architecture of a hidden life — and the single act of ego that finally tore it down. This episode includes AI-generated content.
