Democratic socialism is a political ideology that advocates for a democratically run, decentralized socialist economy. While modern democratic socialists hold diverse views on how this economy should function, they share a core commitment to abolishing capitalism rather than merely regulating it through the state (the approach favored by social democrats). Furthermore, they prioritize democracy as an intrinsic end rather than a mere means to an end, with some holding that revolution is an acceptable path to achieving that democratic ideal.
Democratic socialists reject Marxism-Leninism (i.e., communism) as a legitimate form of socialism, arguing that command economies effectively belong to a small bureaucracy that treats the means of production as its own private property. Democratic socialists also disagree with social democrats’ attempts to harness capitalism to a strong welfare state, since such mixed economies still leave many businesses’ ownership under private (and therefore undemocratic) control. Instead, all employees should enjoy either democratic control or self-management in the workplace.

When I first heard about AI, I was highly skeptical and for good reason. Spending my career in IT Support and Systems Administration taught me how to find answers methodically. We didn't use prompts; we plugged questions or error codes into Google and dug through the links. We knew the source. We knew who to contact for follow-up. The thought of accepting an answer blindly without knowing where it came from goes against everything I know.
I’m no Luddite, I love technology, and I even use AI occasionally to generate images. But despite its occasional usefulness, it's not consistent, and it certainly doesn't justify the data centers swallowing up every patch of open land. It's unsustainable. When tech companies spend $2.59 Trillion on AI while massive human crises go unsolved, it's clear the industry needs to slow down. But billionaires only see the money, and the rest of us will suffer for their greed.
The real problem with AI and I believe this is a feature, not a bug is centralization. Right now, the internet is decentralized. Anyone can launch a website. If your content shows up in a search, the user can verify it, question it, or reject it for bias. AI strips that away, presenting a finished document or spreadsheet as absolute truth. Knowledge is being consolidated into the hands of a few gatekeepers, people who have proven time and again that they can’t be trusted.
If you wanted to control the world, controlling the flow of information through AI and LLMs is exactly how you'd start.

I have become completely disillusioned with Maryland politics. One of our current U.S. Senators and the majority of our Representatives in the House are corporate Democrats heavily backed by AIPAC. But it gets worse. In the race for Maryland’s 5th Congressional District, AIPAC and other corporate PACs are pouring massive amounts of money behind Adrian Boafo.
Fortunately, the word is out. People are finally waking up to the threat AIPAC poses to our democratic process, and strong grassroots candidates like Harry Dunn are running viable campaigns against this corporate influence. Yet, our state leadership remains out of touch. Governor Wes Moore has explicitly endorsed Adrian Boafo, as well as Glenn Ivey for his congressional re-election bid—both of whom receive immense backing from AIPAC.
Does this mean our state government now explicitly aligns itself with the ongoing devastation and genocide in Gaza and Lebanon? You have to answer that question for yourself. For me, the conclusion is unavoidable. We all see the reality of what is happening in the Middle East. At this point, accepting their money makes you complicit in the murder of children in Gaza and Lebanon.
