14 OCT 2022 · Summer internships are an important part of the college experience, allowing students to implement some of the skills they’ve been learning toward their future careers. But how often do those internships involve working side-by-side with cancer researchers, well-respected experts in their fields, and earning a co-author notation on papers? For Dakota Lazore-Swan, Flint Swamp and Jake Maresca, that’s exactly how they spent their summer, working for 10 weeks with doctors and nurses at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as part of a partnership between the Center for Indigenous Cancer Research (CICR) and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) of Akwesasne, funded by the National Institutes of Health.

18 MAY 2021 · Join a short discussion with CICR Community Advisory Board Member Rory Wheeler (Seneca Nation) to hear his reasons for being involved in cancer prevention and health promotion. Rory also talks about youth leadership development opportunities and his experiences while participating in both CICR’s Community Advisory Board (CAB), as well as Roswell Park’s larger CAB. He highlights why representation is important, especially when it involves cancer research and care.

16 FEB 2021 · Tune in to hear from CICR’s Community Relations Coordinator William Maybee (Seneca Nation) about wellness, movement and resiliency as it relates to cancer prevention and health. Will offers some insight on traditional food diets, holistic and traditional approaches to health, and suggestions for cancer patients and families to help increase physical activity to improve quality of life.

12 JAN 2021 · In this episode, we invite Pete Hill, from the Cayuga Nation (Heron Clan), to share his stories of community outreach and engagement and feature information and resources related to health and wellness from our partners at the Native American Community Services of Erie and Niagara Counties(NACS) located in Buffalo, NY.

1 DEC 2020 · In this episode, we invite Tinka Duran, a citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Nation, to feature information and resources related to cancer prevention and screening from our partners at the Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board in Rapid City, South Dakota.

2 NOV 2020 · For our first episode, we provide an introduction to the Center for Indigenous Cancer Research (CICR) at Roswell Park. The show features CICR Director Rodney Haring and Research Assistant Whitney Ann Henry who have both been at Roswell Park for the past five years and laid the groundwork to establish a center for Indigenous cancer research. We talk about what made the center possible, what priorities we’re focused on today, and where we see ourselves headed to ensure Indigenous peoples are respectfully engaged in cancer research and prevention strategies.
