Her artwork is in prestigious museum collections, and her commercial work has appeared in renowned magazines like the Smithsonian. Sky’s passion is creating films and projects that inspire intergenerational connections, emphasizing the power of shared stories. Following her successful PBS documentary "Lives Well Lived," her book "Lives Well Lived — GENERATIONS" distills wisdom from the film, celebrating life's essence across generations.
Sky joins us on the Bright Side to talk about her new book, her upcoming documentary films, and her legacy of kindness and bringing generations together.Â

7 FEB 2024 · Dr. Rob Winningham received his Ph.D. in neuroscience from Baylor University. He joined the faculty at Western Oregon University in 2000 where he serves as a Professor of Psychological Sciences. He helped create the Gerontology Department, when he was Division Chair of the Behavioral Sciences Division. And, he has served as College Dean, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Western Oregon University.
His scholarship and publications have generally focused on maximizing quality of life, cognitive stimulation, intergenerational programs (bringing together younger and older people) and social engagement throughout the lifespan. In addition to publishing many peer-reviewed scientific articles, Dr. Winningham has been invited to give nearly 2000 presentations at various conferences, workshops and community settings.
He has helped develop a number of popular products for senior living and healthcare, including LinkedSenior, SMARTfit and Activity Connection. His book, Train Your Brain: How to Maximize Memory Ability in Older Adulthood was published by Routledge Publishing and his latest book is entitled Cranium Crunches, both of which can be found on Amazon.
Today's topic focuses on the effects of loneliness on brain health, and how social connection can help. Dr. Rob also discusses interventions that lead to better memory and cognitive function, including strength training, hearing checks, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, having social support and more.

Her national award-winning work to create interactive dance, music and story programs for intergenerational participants is designed to tap into the artistry and creativity of older adults and invite them to be central collaborators in the artistic process of dance, music and storytelling. In 2001, Maria developed The Dancing Heart™, a nationally recognized, evidence-based program which engages older adults of all abilities in weekly, interactive arts participation and health education. It was featured in the 2012 PBS documentary, Arts & the Mind, and is recognized as a model arts involvement program by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the National Center for Creative Aging (NCCA), and winner of awards for program innovation by the American Public Health Association, American Society on Aging, and others. Maria is also an AARP Minnesota/Pollen Midwest Leadership 2019 Award Winner.
