23 JAN 2023 · The Two Gay Geeks have a chat with each other about their experience attending the Arizona Opera production of Puccini's "Tosca." We were able to get a backstage tour as well as see both casts of the production. It was absolutely amazing, from the voices to the orchestra and the staging and scenery used. It was one of the highlights of our opera experiences. Arizona Opera and Joe Specter have hit a home run with "Tosca." Have a listen, and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   About The Two Gay Geeks Ben and Keith are The Two Gay Geeks behind TG Geeks Webcast, where our motto is “You name it, We talk about it.” ® Our website, tggeeks.com, is the headquarters for our Webcast as well as articles and reviews on a variety of subjects. We cover all aspects of Geek-dom and Nerd-ery. As our motto implies, we talk about almost anything. We do tend to talk more about Sci-Fi, Comics, Film, Horror, and Genre, but we have been known to talk about Opera and Disneyland on occasion. We have become passionate about supporting Independent Creators; whether that is film, comics, music, or authors, we are always open to talking with creators of all types. So, come along and join our wildest ride in the podosphere. About Arizona Opera ☀☀☀ Arizona Opera, originally the Tucson Opera Company, was founded in 1971 by a dedicated group of opera enthusiasts. Its inaugural season featured two performances of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville in Tucson and by the 1976 – 1977 season Arizona Opera was performing complete seasons in both Tucson and Phoenix. Arizona Opera produces fully-staged operas, concerts, and collaborative programs throughout the state of Arizona each year, and is among only a handful of companies in the U.S. that regularly performs in more than one city. Having just celebrated its 50th Anniversary Season, Arizona Opera mission is to elevate the transformative power of storytelling through music, cultivating community and strengthening a state and people as adventurous and diverse as the place they call home. Since its inaugural year in 1971, Arizona Opera has produced more than 200 operas and concerts. The company's artistic history is rich with a blend of opera’s traditional repertoire featuring baroque, bel canto, and verismo works, turn-of-the-century masterpieces, operettas, and contemporary American operas. About Tosca A political thriller, set in Rome in June 1800, Tosca tells a story of passionate, yet tender love, jealousy, betrayal, lust, and self-sacrifice. Tosca’s action takes place over a span of less than 24 hours during the Napoleonic wars and amidst great political unrest, making it one of the most dramatic thrill rides in opera. The plot centers around three main characters: Rome’s diva Floria Tosca, her lover Mario Cavaradossi, and the corrupt Chief of Police, Baron Scarpia. Scarpia has long lusted after Tosca, and when he suspects Cavaradossi of assisting an escaped political prisoner, he seizes the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. He will manipulate Tosca into revealing the prisoner’s hiding place and Cavaradossi’s involvement, so he can have Tosca for himself. When Cavaradossi is captured, Scarpia offers Tosca a horrific bargain – she must give herself to Scarpia, or her lover is killed. What will she choose, and who will survive?

5 DEC 2022 · The Two Gay Geeks have a chat with Trisha from Winter Horror Fest and the event they are producing later on this month, A Fright Before Christmas. This event is in support of Mulligan House, a group home for at-risk LGBTQ+ kids about to age out of the Foster system. It is a worthy cause. We plan to support this event and encourage you to visit and sign up for their Angel Tree for these kids. Have a listen, and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   About Trisha "Whisper VanKelt" Trisha, also known by her stage name, Whisper VanKelt, is a self-described nerd, artist, performer, seamstress, custom clothing and costume designer, and embodiment of chaotic good. Even her stage name came from her character in teenage games of old-school D&D. Trisha has been involved in every capacity of event production, from performing to planning, promoting to producing, set building to choreography, hosting, and everything in between. She currently runs Thinly Veiled Az, a local theater troupe and shadow cast, performing regular showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in multiple venues, and has found creative ways to turn each show into a production, incorporating opening acts, DJs, vendors, photographers, and other elements to creatively keep the events lively, unique, and usually ridiculous. You'll find her designing costumes, building props, teaching roles, emceeing, and even performing as Magenta. She figures out how to be in a million places at once, and though always chaotic, she somehow keeps everything in place, and the events are certainly entertaining and memorable. With a love of all things horror, the next step for her needed to be finding a way to fill the huge horror convention void in Arizona. After months of brainstorming and frantic note scribbling, she saw a path forward, and one fishnet and combat boot step at a time, she started the journey. Partnering up with Alexis, they founded a new company, and Winter HorrorFest was born. About Winter Horror Fest ☀☀☀ Winter HorrorFest presents The Fright Before Christmas, a family-friendly, Christmas-themed horror convention December 16-18 at The Phoenix Center for the Arts.
