In the stifling household of her old-fashioned grandmother, orphaned Rose Cottingham yearns for a world beyond her confines. Finding solace in her neighbor, Mrs. Winter, Roses life takes a turn when she is sent off to school, where she encounters Miss Quayle, a strict disciplinarian with surprisingly progressive views on girls education. As Rose navigates the challenges of school, she befriends Helen Fergurson, a professors daughter who introduces her to new ideas and perspectives. Yet, when Rose returns to her grandmothers oppressive home, she is left longing for a life filled with purpose and opportunity. Will she be able to carve out her own path to fulfillment?
