  • Youth Radio - Online Gaming Disorder Dr Philip Tam

13 SEP 2016 · #DrPhilipTam: Like a virus, computer #gaming and online addiction is spreading rapidly among teenagers and children as young as three, negatively impacting on their quality of life in so many ways. Miani and Leah are joined by guests Susan McLean and Dr Philip Tam for a Cyber Savvy discussion about online gaming disorder. Dr Tam certainly knows a lot about this topic as he is a Sydney-based child #psychiatrist in public practice, and a lecturer with Sydney University. Dr Tam has a long-standing clinical, teaching and advocacy interest in the challenging field of internet and computer-related disorders, and regularly lectures on the topic to both specialist and general audiences. He also comments and writes on the field across the Australasian media and is one of the founding members of NIIRA – the network for internet investigation and research Australia…. In fact Dr Tam is recognised as a national and global leader in this area, so like I said, he definitely knows a lot about cyber addiction! http://www.niira.org.au/ http://www.cybersafetysolutions.com.au/ Follow us on https://www.facebook.com/SwitchOnYourRadio/ https://www.facebook.com/musicmattersradio/ https://twitter.com/SBNyouthmedia Catch Primary Perspectives every Monday 4-5pmAEST streaming from www.3wbc.org.au and streaming live Tuesdays 4-5pm www.3mdr.com You can support our youth media charity simply by purchasing the Music Matters IOA Charity Album, which is available via www.musicmatters.org.au - every purchase is going towards helping support important youth initiatives including young people in need.

  • Youth Radio - Renae Sayers Fireballs in the Sky

18 AUG 2016 · #FireballsInTheSky: Did you know that #meteorites are the oldest rocks in existence and the only surviving physical record of the formation and evolution of the solar system. Potentially, meteorites offer a way for us to understand our origins and to decode that information we need to know where they come from. The Desert Fireball Network (or DFN for short) is designed to provide that data. Fireballs in the Sky is a citizen science initiative that allows everyone to share the discoveries of the Desert Fireball Network. To find out more Leah and Miani crossed to Perth for National Science Week to speak with Science Communicator, Renae Sayers from Curtin University, about the Fireballs in the Sky project. Renae has a degree in astrophysics and gets to talk about science all the time including at TEDxPerth, presentations at the Australian Academy of Science and Global Health Conference 2015, as well as a sell-out Fringe World show, which is all pretty impressive! Through her Planetary Science Outreach role at Curtin, Renae shares the stories of the Desert Fireball Network seeking the origins of our solar system and grows the Australian Planetary Science community with NASA through the Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute.... oh, and Renae also breathes fire too! http://fireballsinthesky.com.au/about/ Follow us on https://www.facebook.com/SwitchOnYourRadio/ https://www.facebook.com/musicmattersradio/ https://twitter.com/SBNyouthmedia Catch Primary Perspectives every Monday 4-5pmAEST streaming from www.3wbc.org.au and streaming live Tuesdays 4-5pm www.3mdr.com Music cut: Back to the Stars by Frank Dixon from the Music Matters Charity Album.
