  • S1: E5 Food Rescue "Rescue Me"

21 APR 2021 · In this episode we interview Kate Urbank, the DC director of Food Rescue US. Food Rescue US is a national nonprofit committed to reducing food waste and food insecurity by engaging volunteer "food rescuers" who use their own vehicles to pick up healthy surplus food from donor businesses and deliver it to agencies that feed the food insecure. Food donors, partner agencies and volunteers register in our proprietary software that keeps track of where food is going and who is delivering it. Not only does our program feed hungry people and keep edible food out of landfill, it builds community by connecting these three pillars together for the greater good. Operating in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, Food Rescue US - DC welcomes new volunteers who can register through our website and self-select food rescues that work for their schedules. Businesses that are interested in donating and agencies that are looking for food donations should contact Site Director Kate Urbank at to learn how to join the program.
