Des shares what it was like growing up as working class kid in Glasgow and finding his way into the world of film, how he discovers raw talent on the streets of London, how the cast and crew of Top Boy have become family, what it was like winning a BAFTA during lockdown with his son in Paris (and who he would like to present his award to him). We discuss his nation-wide search for the character of Jojo in Jojo Rabbit, overcoming the addiction battles of his youth, and the importance of kindness in the industry (and in life). It was an absolute privilege (and such blast) interviewing Des. The conversation is raw and honest (it’s a longer episode than usual), but well worth the listen. If you enjoy the episode - please share it with others - and rate, review and subscribe to Hatch.
