29 NOV 2016 · Going back to basics this week, giving thanks to lots of helpful people and Christmas is it getting cold! From the original post http://www.thewooddaddy.co.uk/2016/back-to-basics-giving-thanks-and-christmas-its-cold-19/ Back to basics Well as this I forgot to switch the correct microphone on when recording this, I think I have proven my point. I didn't post a video last week because of a small crisis of confidence. I have decided I need to go back to basics after watching my last video. But I am going back to basics with my woodworking and my filming. I have been spending most of my awake time relearning things I thought I knew... hopefully you will see the results. Big Thanks! I want to say some thanks to a few people, but primarily this week to two people... Wes Swain at http://geeksmithing.com/ and Making Geeks Podcast Liam Charles - for helping me a long time ago and giving me a Dewalt Power driver.... which still works well today! @Liamoc13 on Twitter Also thanks to everyone for following me on twitter, Instagram and subscribing on youtube! In the Workshop Not a lot because I have had flu , snot, cold and been feeling rubbish. But I will be looking at making something wooden for Christmas and I will be making a platform bed for my youngest. Outdoors Well has been awful and now it's freezing... they are forecasting -10 C around here tonight, so hopefully our outside boiler will keep working and keep us warm... but it is is prone to freezing! Paris No news on Paris.... we wait for mid December. Podcast and Video recommendations this week None this week, but what about Casey Neistat ending the vlog hey? Stihl Giveaway! • Sourcing wood Farts Paris | #15 |

11 OCT 2016 · The workshop is getting colder still, sourcing wood, projects on the bench, farts and relocation to Paris? Workshop It's getting even colder and I still haven't worked out how to heat the workshop. I have an old electric heater, but as the workshop is mostly made of wood I am very conscious of fire risk. Planer Thicknesser I took the plunge and bought a used Elecktra Beckum HC260 M  planer / thicknesser or ebay. It's currently on a pallet truck on its way to me somewhere. But if you have experience of using one / setting it up then I would love to hear about. I am estimating jobs at the moment, rather than making. These include a wine rack, a fitted cupboard with solid Oak top, shelves for a child's bedroom and some alcove cupboards. Sourcing wood I went to find some prices for Oak boards at a local hardwood flooring company, Beech Bros. They have vast amounts of timber out the back and an offcuts room, which is ideal for the size and scale of projects I am doing at the moment. I had a bit of fun getting a price for some boards… basically they gave me a price in cubic metres. I am used to cubic feet and the prices seemed astronomical, £1,373 for a cubic metre. However, when you work that out into board size £39 seems pretty reasonable for rough sawn oak 4.2m x 220mm x 28mm. New Vlog style video I've posted a couple of new style of videos for me, more of a vlog than a project video. What do you think? Comments please on the video on my youtube channel. Outdoors A good visit to RHS Rosemoor in North Devon was had at the weekend. This was prompted by am email from Stihl's PR agency. We all went up and had a look at a new range of battery powered gardening equipment, including a chainsaw. I am going to do a review of it once they send me one to try out. Paris There may be a possibility that we will be relocating to Paris, more details to follow when we have them. • The workshop heating and house points | #14 |

4 OCT 2016 · The workshop is getting cold, so how best to heat it? Transform the behaviour of your kids with home points. Dig ditches for fun! Workshop It's starting to get cold and I am having to think about workshop heating. I have the an electric oil fired heater but it isn't enough. Also I am getting more concerned about the cold causing condensation on the tools, and rust, when I open the doors in the mornings. If you have any thoughts on how to combat this I would love to hear it. The lighting in the workshop also needs work. As it's getting darker earlier I am starting to notice the lower levels of sunlight whilst I am working. Again one for more thought, but it's probably tied to sorting out the electrics. Jobs completed this week so far include the pine breakfast bar ( pictures coming soon) and fitting some shelves. I am now looking for a planer/thicknesser, so if you have any recommendations for a sturdy but not too big machine for under £500 please let me know in the comments below. New Vlog style video I've posted a new style of video for me, more of a vlog than a project video. What do you think? Comments please on the video on my youtube channel. House  / Home points. In one easy step we have transformed the behaviour of our children. We have simply instigated house points. Our three now have this system of positive reinforcement at school and they seemed to be responding to it well, so we thought we could use it at home. So far it's been great, no more "its boring" more "what jobs can I do dad?" Outdoors We were helping my father-in-law get a polytunnel up this weekend. So Sunday morning was spent digging a ditch in thick, wet clay soil. A much needed pub lunch was had and discussions of hiring a digger were also had. Now go get some wood!
