F for Fashion

  • THERE IS NO PLACE FOR FAKE / SUSANA CONFORTI

23 SEP 2021 · With this speech Susana Conforti, Full Professor at Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE)/ Faculty of Architecture & Design, investigates the taste for the truth in the hypermodern society and the search for the authentic coexists with a growing dominance of the fake. As she observes, people like to carry products that are a copy of others at least to feel the illusion of the original promise. That is why it is also a society of artificiality, false luxury, authentic junk and virtual truth. Nowadays, with the pandemic we have to see fashion in the human behavior of society. The human being needs to return to the authentic, to form awareness about the world in which he lives and project his next step to create his future. Changes today occur through culture, the transmission of knowledge, ethical conduct and social responsibility. Consequently, the design activity implies to answer creatively in an honest way. The designer is at the service of the community. On the other hand, companies must innovate, return to the pure values of quality and authenticity. They have to produce textiles that are biodegradable, or at least recyclable and non-polluting. Therefore, innovation must be aligned with the so-called "green agenda" and ethical production. Sustainability is a way of making fashion genuine or less fake and turning into authenticity implies thinking from the human being point of view. There is a new system of making things, there is a new economy. There is no place for FAKE. The lecture is introduced by Roy Menarini and held within the course of Film and Fashion, Master in Fashion Studies, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna - Rimini Campus

  • F IS FOR FAKE, F IS FOR FASHION / ANTONIO MANCINELLI

  • ANTI-FASHION AS THE NATURAL TRUTH / NICKOLAS PAPPAS

23 SEP 2021 · From The City College of New York, Nickolas Pappas approaches fashion from a philosophical perspective and focusing on anti-fashion. According to Pappas, if fashion rests on the mechanism of social imitativeness, anti-fashion represents the contrary attempt to justify social presentation without reference to social forces. The prisoners in Plato’s allegorical cave think as fans of fashion do, asking only how things appear to their fellow prisoners. But what can appear one way or the other has less reality to begin with. Social presentation that rises above appearance presents the truth about a human; and by this reasoning ancient Greek athletic nudity, and black dress in other cultures, worked as a first anti-fashion. Today’s anti-fashion (jeans, black clothing, tattoos, the shaved head, the man’s suit) retains something of the old philosophical enterprise of finding a true or natural way of being in society. • SOMAESTHETICS AND THE FITS OF FASHION / RICHARD SHUSTERMAN

20 SEP 2021 · From the Florida Atlantic University, the American philosopher Richard Shusterman develops the topics at the center of the project 'F for Fashion' by approaching fashion from the philosophical perspective of somaesthetics and focusing on the specific question of the role played by the so-called 'fit model' in today's fashion industry. The figure of the fit model is emblematic of some important, paradoxical features of fashion that relate more generally to contrasting ambiguities in the concept of style, such as inclusion and exclusion, novelty and familiarity, group identity and personal distinction, classification and evaluation. The lecture is introduced by Stefano Marino and held within the course of Pop Culture Theory, Master in Fashion Studies, Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna - Rimini Campus

  • GOD SAVE THE FAKE / VITTORIO LINFANTE

8 SEP 2021 · The concept of fake, in every creative field (from art to design and even fashion), is an open and in- creasingly tricky question. Even if it is categorized with a negative meaning, there are many situations in which the fake and the context in which it is read, performed and used make it, depending on the situation, a market strategy, a communication strategy and also an element of identity for building a specific style. Vittorio Linfante from the Polytechnic of Milan intends to investigate the concept of fake as product identity, marketing strategy and communicative action, in fashion as well as in other areas of creativity. The lecture has been introduced by Ines Tolic and held within the course of Spaces of Contemporary Architecture, Master in Fashion Studies, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna - Rimini Campus
