So let's stop the trend 📌
Body shaming is the action or practice of humiliating someone by making mocking or critical comments about their body shape or size.
The concept of ‘ideal body image’ for women has been around for decades, which women are now fighting off with a new wave of ‘body inclusivity’. “On the other hand, there have been few similar movements for men. The concept of the ‘ideal male body’ with lean muscles and a six-pack looms large in the male psyche. For centuries, male and female gender roles have been such that the concept of ‘physical beauty’ was limited to women,” Mittal explains. But the tables have turned. A man’s desirability now is not just measured by his personality or success alone. With shifting gender roles, men too have been subjected to the same look-based scrutiny.
Mittal feels the phenomenon is even more amplified in the Indian context, where marriages were once mostly arranged. With more women choosing their partners and dating, men have greater responsibility to pay attention to physical appearance with pressure to achieve certain body, making them vulnerable to body shaming.

But we need to stop it 🚫🚫
Body shaming is defined as the act of making inappropriate and negative comments about another person's weight or size. Frequently, this is something that overweight people are subjected to but there's an increasing trend in criticising those who are skinny
“We are our own worst critic” is often a phrase we use to describe when we, as individuals, are too hard on ourselves. For most people, it is a natural tendency to always be better, faster and stronger however this craze for becoming better can result in severe mental health consequences, especially when it comes time to our physical appearances. The media has commonly portrayed overweight characters as the running joke of the show, resulting in “fat jokes” and a severe manifestation of self-doubt known as body shaming. Body shaming is known as the action or practice of expressing humiliation about another individual’s body shape or size; a form of bullying that can result in severe emotional trauma, especially at a young age. Body shaming is done by parents, siblings, friends, enemies, and schoolmates and is often portrayed in the media. “Why is she wearing that? It is not flattering at all.” Or “I am so ugly compared to her I will never find a date” are common thoughts and phrases used that are examples of body shaming. Negatively commenting about the size or shape of anyone’s body can be extremely damaging to them potentially leading to low-self esteem, anger, self-harm and even mental health disorders, specifically body dysmorphic disorder.
