10 SEP 2018 · This is part 2 of my Libre Soy Series, I reflect on how I am co-creating my pedagogy of Expressive Arts Therapy. As I undertake teaching Theories of Expressive Arts Therapy this semester (humbly only for the 6th time), I am beginning to conceptualize my Theory of Praxis with the hope to continue critical inquiry and evolve our work through my lived experience of it. Be sure to check out part 1, a blogpost utilizing arts based processing of my clinical work with a child recently reunited with her mother after living in a "tender age shelter" for 40 days.

  • (in)VISIBILITY: Episode 2 Creatively Crossing Borders with Vivian Poey

9 MAR 2018 · Join us for a conversation about de-colonizing narratives about immigration using the arts with the 2017 Massachusetts Art Educator in Higher Education award recipient and professor at Lesley University, Vivian Poey. Crossing Borders is an exhibition of work that examines personal perspectives on immigration by artists whose life and work have been shaped by this identity. This exhibition comes on the heels of longtime sociopolitical and economic disparities further intensified by recent policy threats to those over whom immigrant identities and current statuses, either their own or those of loved ones, loom large in daily life. The show features artists from many countries spanning a wide range of age and experience from high school and college students to professional artists. Crossing Borders will be accompanied by a companion exhibition curated by junior visual artists at BAA with the co-chair of the visual art department Elizabeth Valentin. Crossing Borders was originally conceptualized and presented in its first iteration at Lesley University in Fall 2017. Crossing Borders opening reception at Boston Arts Academy has is scheduled for Thursday March 15 from 5-7pm. Sandra and Philip Gordon Gallery Boston Arts Academy 174 Ipswich Street Boston, MA 02115 If you can’t make the reception but would like to see the show at a different time the Gordon Gallery (and BAA) regular hours are Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. The school is closed on Saturdays and will be closed March 30, April 16-20 (Spring Break) 2018. Vivian's current arts based research focuses on the history of migration from and to Cuba of her paternal ancestors.
