1 NOV 2026 · Is Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) one of the most underrated entries in the entire franchise?
In this episode of ClassHorrorCast, we descend into the psychological nightmare of Scott Derrickson's fifth instalment in the Hellraiser series and explore a film that dared to take the franchise in a bold and unexpected direction.
We dive into the behind-the-scenes stories, the writing process, and the fascinating ideas that shaped the movie, exploring its disturbing themes of guilt, corruption, morality and punishment. What makes Inferno so effective is its willingness to move away from the traditional Hellraiser formula and deliver something darker, stranger and far more psychologically unsettling.And then there's Pinhead.
With Doug Bradley's iconic Cenobite taking a much smaller on-screen role than in previous instalments, we ask the question: was Pinhead really absent from the story, or was his presence felt in every moment of the protagonist's descent into hell?
We also get into one of the film's most compelling questions: what is true torture? physical suffering or psychological torment? Is the pain inflicted on the body really worse than being forced to confront your own sins, guilt and darkest secrets?

Taking place across three different time periods - the French Revolution, the present day and the future. Hellraiser: Bloodline attempted to tell a much larger story than audiences were used to from the series.
We discuss the unique swing the writers took with this storyline, what worked incredibly well, and the elements that ultimately hindered the film from reaching its full potential. We look at the film's great opening, Adam Scott's memorable performance, Pinhead in space, the incredible gore and creature makeups, and some classic Pinhead dialogue, while also diving into plenty of fascinating behind-the-scenes stories, production trivia and Hellraiser history.
Was Bloodline a misunderstood and genuinely ambitious Hellraiser sequel? Or did its ideas simply become too much for the film to handle? We also look back at a time when established horror franchises were still willing to take huge creative swings, experiment with their mythology and attempt something genuinely different.

In my very first interview as host of ClassHorrorCast, I was fortunate enough to spend over two hours talking horror with The Blair Witch Project co-creator and director Eduardo Sánchez.
Looking back, I was inexperienced, asked way too many questions and probably kept Eduardo talking far longer than I should have but he was incredibly generous with his time and stories, helping shape what ClassHorrorCast would eventually become.
Over the years we stayed in touch, exchanged some very cool gifts and remained connected through our shared love of horror cinema.
In this wide-ranging conversation we discuss The Blair Witch Project, found footage horror, Seventh Moon, the fantastic Bigfoot film Exists, the criminally underrated Lovely Molly and much more.
