Christianity is a religion, not a relationship. James teaches us that the only right religion gives us every true relationship with God and makes us joyful doers of His Word.

In a world that looks like the devil is winning, Jesus declares the ruler of this world has already been judged. The Holy Spirit convinces us of Jesus’ victory so we live forgiven, at peace with God, and free from fear.

Following Jesus doesn’t mean performing miracles but tracing His steps through suffering with patient endurance. The Good Shepherd has suffered for you, healed you by His wounds, and never loses one of His sheep.

The evening of the first Easter, the risen Jesus didn’t knock. He simply appeared not with words of judgment or disappointment, but His with absolution, “Peace be with you.” That same peace is for you today.

The Lord has fought for you, and He fights for you still. In Christ you are already through the sea which swallows your enemies. So, go in peace. Go with joy. Go singing.

Even though death is a powerful enemy, it is not possible for death to hold Christ (Act. 2:24). Jesus’ death has caused death itself to die. By Christ’s death, death itself is forever swallowed up in Resurrection victory (1 Co. 15:54).

From a human standpoint, the crucifixion is utterly unjust, but in the cosmic view of things, God accomplishes the greatest act of justice ever. Justice is Jesus redeeming and claiming what belongs to Him. That’s you.
