6 APR 2024 · Story by: Gail Nobles Podcast intro: Gail Nobles Photo: This file is licensed under the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Creative_Commons https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/deed.en license. Wikipedia  Today's topic: Aaliyah:Turn The Page. The song Turn The Page by Aaliyah is track three on Music of the Heart (The Album) produced by  Guy Roche. It was released in 1999. The song brings old memories to my mind. Aaliyah sung these words in the lyrics: What would I do if some strange morning I opened up my eyes to find you gone? I can't imagine how I would survive it. I'll find another reason to go on…. When I look back, you're everywhere. Turn the page, you were there.  When Aaliyah asked the question ‘what would I do to find you gone’,  those are words I always found myself asking about someone. I couldn't imagine how I would survive it, and I guess I found a reason to go on. Aaliyah has done a great job singing the song Turn the Page, and it's a great song a song with meaning and feeling.  There were many nights and many mornings I had to turn the page to another chapter without that special someone but still intact in my heart. God answered every prayer. He showed me what was still there.  Turn the page comes from the soundtrack of the film Music of the Heart. You can hear the song on YouTube. Turn the Page by Aaliyah.  I'm Gail Nobles.

She said Whoa Whoa ... wait!  Y'all ain't grooving into this groove the way y'all need to be grooving into this groove.  I asked out loud: Is that Janet Jackson? And it was. When I got the question out of my mouth, I heard her say: That's right, baby, groove.  I was so tickled because I have never seen Janet Jackson with a Monique attitude. Usually she has a sweet and shy attitude. Now, you know how music artist do in concert. They make dialogue a part of the act when they are singing sometimes. If that was what Janet was doing, she had a powerful and meaningful expression. I've never seen her act like that before.  So the next time if you go to a Janet Jackson concert, remember,  y'all need to groove. Don't stand around like you're dead. You know what you are going to see when you get tickets to a Janet Jackson concert. I'm Gail Nobles. ...

  • Aretha - You’re All I Need .. 3:2:24 5.40 PM

2 MAR 2024 · Story by: Gail Nobles Intro by: Gail Nobles Photo: Ryan Arrowsmith Usage: Wikipedia https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5 Today's topic: Aretha Franklin - You're All I Need To Get By. There are several notable cover versions of the song. Johnny Mathis and Denise Williams, Tony Orlando and Dawn, and some others have cover versions of the song You're All I Need To Get By. It was originally recorded by R&B soul duo Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell and released on Motown records Tamia label in 1968. The song was written by Nicholas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. It became one of the few Motown recordings of the 1960s that was not recorded with the familiar Motown sound. Instead the song had a more soulful and gospel oriented theme surrounding it that was influenced by the writers who also sing background vocals on the recording sharing vocals in a church choir in New York City. You're All I Need To Get By was a great song for Aretha Franklin to sing, and she recorded the song as a single in 1971. The song was also included on her compilation album Aretha's Greatest Hits release later the same year. Her version peaked at number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the Hot Soul Singles chart. It also features in a 2020 holiday advertisement for Walmart. Most people love the original version of You're All I Need To Get By. Aretha knew how to sing her version without leaving the original way of singing it, but still singing it her way. Her version is loved too, and already the song had a gospel sound, and Aretha was also known for singing gospel. The song was just right for Aretha Franklin. Thank you for tuning in and listening to today's topic Aretha Franklin. You're All I Need To Get By. Tune in again next time for more. I'm Gail Nobles.

22 FEB 2024 · Story by: Gail Nobles Intro by: Gail Nobles Photo: Wikipedia https://yo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fáìlì:Aaliyah_Haughton.jpg Fast Drawing: Soundbible.com Aaliyah called her sound street but sweet. It's a fact Aaliyah showed us a little more than that. We heard some R&B like One in a Million, The One I Gave My Heart To, At Your Best, and Rock the Boat. If you paid attention, you know that Aaliyah wasn't just hip-hop and beat. Aaliyah gave us variety. In my opinion, Aaliyah was like a little Jody Watley singing More Than a Woman, and If Your Girl Only Knew because she had a long hairdo like Jody Watley and attitude. They both could dance and sing, but they had different styles. Jody Watley was in the singing and dancing business a lot longer. I would have loved to have seen them perform together. But Aaliyah was beginning to sing and perform on stage with other performers. She was growing and maturing, and who knows all what she might have done if she had lived. I find that even her hand signature was very artistic whenever she signed autographs for her fans. A-A-L-I-Y-A-H was her name. We have come to the end of a podcast episode about the Princess of R&B Aaliyah. I'm Gail Nobles.

  • Michael Jackson’s Voice 2:13:24 2.22 PM

13 FEB 2024 · Story by: Gail Nobles Photo: Zoran Veselinovic - https://www.flickr.com/photos/56492970@N07/5759638423/in/photostream/ Usage: Wikipedia https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0 When I heard Michael Jackson the singer, I never really recognize the changes in his voice. When I listen to him growing up, I noticed that he had a very high voice range. I could not tell when he sounded a little raspy. All I was hearing was a child's voice. When he was a boy, to me his singing was perfect. And when I would try to sing with his records, I didn't feel comfortable singing in high range with him. Michael could sing very high and loud. I wasn't a loud singer. I just sing out enough to be heard. Singing along with Michael's voice was never easy. Ben the two of us need look no more… Starting out with him was OK, but when he started singing in that high range …With the friend to call my own….. that's the part that's not always easy. When I begin listening to Michael Jackson, when he was at age 18 or 19, then I noticed that he was no longer singing like little Michael Jackson. I noticed his voice changed then, but I never paid much attention to it because I loved his singing still. To my ears he had a great sounding voice as an adult soprano.Just a little bit of you everyday…Michael still had a beautiful young sounding voice is a young man. When he started singing his hit singles in his 20s like Rock With You, I noticed the shake in his voice more. ...close your eyes, Let the rhythm get into you. And as the years went by, as Michael Jackson got older, his voice changed some more. His voice got more raspy and sometimes deep. But even his raspy voice sounded good to me. I still enjoyed hearing him sing because I could still hear Michael Jackson. I'm Gail Nobles. Thank you for tuning in and goodbye for now.

  • 6 CB-What’s Behind the Music? 1:26:24 6.30 PM

26 JAN 2024 · Story By: Gail Nobles First, let's talk about rap music and the music industry. Today rap music is a more complex thing to me than it was when it first started. Rap music became like a street thing with violence. It crushed my dreams from wanting to become a rapper. When rap first started, it was simply all about having fun and entertainment. It started in the early 70s. It was a good thing in the 80s. It kept some people off the street where I'm from. Some of us had dreams and wanted to become famous and make rap records. We would get together in school and have rap contest. Those were the good old days. Our parents told us we wouldn't make it that way. I believe we could have back then considering what's going on now. It seemed like the music industry began to change and so did hip-hop in the 90s. I saw how hip-hop was affecting things. I didn't know what was going on in 1989 when Whitney Houston got booed, and why I was hearing all the talk about her not being black enough at the Soul Train Music Awards. I believe something was happening then. Then everybody was talking about hip-hop singing Mary J. Blige in 1992. But by then, Whitney Houston went on to act in a romantic thriller film The Bodyguard in 1992. But getting back to hip-hop, it seemed in the 90s rap music was popular because of the West Coast - East Coast thing. By then, I wasn't interested in rap that much. To me, some people started looking at black as hip-hop. I never consider the race thing in music as far as all of the violence. Music was becoming a violent thing to me because Tupac got shot and Biggie got shot. It made me think that music was not just music anymore and hip-hop wasn't hip-hop anymore. Then all of a sudden I was hearing that Michael Jackson was facing allegations of child sexual abuse in 1993 and 2003 then in 2009 he dead in 2012 Whitney Houston died our biggest stars after that prince died in 2016 then R. Kelly went to jail in 2022 for sex trafficking now I'm seeing P. Diddy in the news. Things ain't right in the music world. That's what the headlines have been telling us. Not tabloids with the gossip, but headlines and television. So what's behind the music? Why are all these bad things happening to our favorite stars? Why are they being accused of sex crimes? Why are they going to jail? And these are very successful people. Think on these things. Thank you for listening to CB news. I'm Gail Nobles.
