  • #14 - Making Emotions Visible through Art w/ Steve Mekoudja

2 AUG 2020 · This week features Steve Mekoudja, the self-declared multi-artist that combines writing, singing, dancing, cooking, computer engineering and even acting into a bubbling mix of art and music. His last album was an attempt to make visible what tends to be hard to talk about: troubled masculinities are often hard to bring into words, says Mekoudja, and art can often express without words those emotions that men otherwise lack the language to. His music is smooth yet upbeat, seemingly innocent but rebelliously in your face. It doesn't fool around, and neither does Steve Mekoudja. His new album will shift its focus from the difficulties of expressing emotion to the political and cultural issues in his homeland, Cameroon. For anyone who has been looking for music that deconstructs masculinity and at the same time provides a way out, Steve Mekoudja stands as a beacon of hope. • #13 - How to Get Creative and Stay Creative w/ Biesmans

26 JUL 2020 · Synthesizers, surfboards and sampling... Joris Biesmans has a lot up his sleeve. He has earned his high Beatport rankings and signings at various hot labels over the last few years with his heavy retro beats, infused with synthesizer-fueled 80s disco melodies. It also gave him a spot on the Watergate agency roster, and this year was gonna be his year - until the Big C happened. We talked what he did to stay creative, his musical roots, and what it means for him to play 'live' sets. If you're a fan of retro house/techno or live sets, then look no further. #12 - with Ina West

14 JUN 2020 · In this week's episode of Berlin Roundfunk, I'm talking to Ina West, whose latest album "Girls" is truly a work of wonder. She experiments with violins and guitars in an electronic environment where she writes the music for all of the instruments herself. Her inspiration she takes from her life; her time as a nanny in England is featured on "Tender Age", and when she meets her old roommate again, now stark naked and covered in red paint, she was inspired to write "Aurora". In short, she doesn't need long to amaze both her interviewer and, I hope, you too. She's vibrant, intense, and hypnotic, which finds expression in the darker songs of her album, sometimes with an underground techno-vibe. For everyone who would rather dance to her music in a club, she's promised us to play more gigs this year in clubs, as well as regular venues. Wanna know more? Check out the entire episode now! • #11 - Hot Stuff 2.0 w/ Palo G

2 JUN 2020 · For this week's episode I had another conversation with Palo G. This time for her new release, "Se Siente Caliente", plus an upcoming one. The new release reminds us of the consequences of ignoring climate change and has both Spanish and English lyrics, the latter sung by the mysterious Moho Jojo. Check out the podcast to find out what Palo G has been doing during the lock-down, and stay tuned to hear a sneak peek of her next song, which is coming out soon.

  • #10 - How to Spice Things Up and Just Start Dancing w/ MIN t

6 MAY 2020 · This week I'm talking to Martyna, who is making music under the name MIN t. She's bringing out her new single, "Start Dancing", and that calls for an interview. From her wide range of musical influences to her eclectic performances, she is everything but ordinary. When asked, she calls her music "Experimental Electronic Neo Soul", which doesn't really do her music justice: it's got something of everything in it and is hard to fit in any category. Interesting fact: while she composes and produces all her music, her sister writes her often emotional and tangible lyrics.

  • #9 - An Englishman in Egypt w/ Tristan Banks

1 MAR 2020 · Berlin Roundfunk is back with another episode where I talk to a veteran of the show, Tristan Banks. Beside his important role in the band Moa McKay and the Flying Cabaret, he is also a booming musician in his own right. With acoustic guitar sounds ranging from folk to metal-like riffs, he has just realized his first solo EP, "Heart", and played a release gig in Café Wendel. Tune in to listen to his musings on music when growing up in Cairo, Egypt during the Arab Spring. Also check out his beautiful song "Oscillations" at the end of this episode. • #8 - The Different Faces of Music w/ LuKKas

16 FEB 2020 · It's all energy and passion for this week's featured artist: LuKKas (in daily life known as Lucas) plays most rock instruments and produces his own songs, too. A rock musician by trade, he puts on various musical personas to widen his musical horizon. In Berlin, you can find him on the streets (check out Stadtmitte late at night), at events, and even book him to help you produce your own tracks. For him, being connected to electronic instruments like an amplifier or a mic functions as an extension to being human, in a way becoming a cyborg in the process. Cyborg or not, all of these extensions enhance the creative process. Tune in for a live performance of his song "Lifeline" - which might go into the books as the longest continuous vocal sound; as well as a very pure studio recording of his rock song "Ready Go".
