April 2014 Prayers

  • Evening Prayer

6 MAR 2017 · Mark 2:18-22 18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and people* came and said to him, ‘Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?’ 19Jesus said to them, ‘The wedding-guests cannot fast while the bridegroom is with them, can they? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.20The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day. 21 ‘No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak; otherwise, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made. 22And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and so are the skins; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.’*

22 DEC 2016 · Luke 1:39-48 39 In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, 40where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42and exclaimed with a loud cry, 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? 44For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. 45And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.' 46And Mary said, 'My soul magnifies the Lord, 47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

19 DEC 2016 · Revelation 20:1-10 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. 2He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, 3and threw him into the pit, and locked and sealed it over him, so that he would deceive the nations no more, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be let out for a little while. 4 Then I saw thrones, and those seated on them were given authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God. They had not worshipped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. Over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. 7 When the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will come out to deceive the nations at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, in order to gather them for battle; they are as numerous as the sands of the sea. 9They marched up over the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from heaven and consumed them. 10And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulphur, where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

23 OCT 2016 · Ecclus. 18: 19- 33 9 The number of days in their life is great if they reach one hundred years. 10 Like a drop of water from the sea and a grain of sand,  so are a few years among the days of eternity.  11 That is why the Lord is patient with them  and pours out his mercy upon them.  12 He sees and recognizes that their end is miserable;  therefore he grants them forgiveness all the more.  13 The compassion of human beings is for their neighbors,  but the compassion of the Lord is for every living thing.  He rebukes and trains and teaches them,  and turns them back, as a shepherd his flock. 14 He has compassion on those who accept his discipline  and who are eager for his precepts. 15 My child, do not mix reproach with your good deeds,  or spoil your gift by harsh words.  16 Does not the dew give relief from the scorching heat?  So a word is better than a gift.  17 Indeed, does not a word surpass a good gift?  Both are to be found in a gracious person.  18 A fool is ungracious and abusive,  and the gift of a grudging giver makes the eyes dim. 19 Before you speak, learn;  and before you fall ill, take care of your health.  20 Before judgment comes, examine yourself;  and at the time of scrutiny you will find forgiveness.  21 Before falling ill, humble yourself;  and when you have sinned, repent.  22 Let nothing hinder you from paying a vow promptly,  and do not wait until death to be released from it.  23 Before making a vow, prepare yourself;  do not be like one who puts the Lord to the test.  24 Think of his wrath on the day of death,  and of the moment of vengeance when he turns away his face.  25 In the time of plenty think of the time of hunger;  in days of wealth think of poverty and need.  26 From morning to evening conditions change;  all things move swiftly before the Lord. 27 One who is wise is cautious in everything; when sin is all around, one guards against wrongdoing.  28 Every intelligent person knows wisdom,  and praises the one who finds her.  29 Those who are skilled in words become wise themselves,  and pour forth apt proverbs. 30 Do not follow your base desires,  but restrain your appetites.  31 If you allow your soul to take pleasure in base desire,  it will make you the laughingstock of your enemies.  32 Do not revel in great luxury,  or you may become impoverished by its expense.  33 Do not become a beggar by feasting with borrowed money,  when you have nothing in your purse. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

11 APR 2014 · "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost" (Luke 19:10) Now, many would read the past tense on this passage and perhaps think that the seeking and the saving of the lost is a thing of the past. But nothing could be further from the truth! Christ still seeks the lost and still wants to bring salvation to the lost. He wants you and me, that is right, you and me. "You and me? I am not lost" some might be tempted to say. However, whenever we sin we become "the lost", and it isn't until we recognize our sin and repent for it that we become "the found". So do not fool yourself into thinking that when the Scripture warns against sinfulness and its painful reward, that it is talking to everyone else out there but you. We can do that sometimes. I know I have done that. Instead, we, I, should look at Scripture as speaking directly to me, and you. I think we would be more than prudent to apply the Scripture to our life, and as St. Francis of Assisi said, we should "Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary use words." 11 APR 2014 · When is Christ coming back? Many have tried to answer that question but to no avail? The answer is no one knows except the Father. Obviously God is keeping that information to Himself, and we must trust Him on that. However, do we really need to know? If our goal is to serve and love God, we do not need to be obsessed with knowing when Christ will come again. After all, since we serve Him and love Him, we are on the clear. Here is Evening Prayer

10 APR 2014 · True: There is a lot of evil in the world. False: My job as a Christian is to point out that evil so that everyone knows about it. True: Christians are being persecuted in many countries by other religions and governments. Chances are that those same religions and governments will persecute all Christians eventually. False: Christians need to arm themselves and use whatever means necessary to destroy those forces of evil and to annihilate those who seek to do us harm before it's too late. True: Christ warned us that we would be persecuted. True: Christ told us that unless we are willing to carry our own crosses and to suffer and die for Him, we will not be worthy of His Holy Name. True: Christ want us to respond to evil with good. If they hate us, we love them. "turn the other cheek" Christ tell us. The days of an eye for an eye are gone. Solution: Pray, pray and pray. Put all your trust in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Surrender to Christ, have no fear, and love, love, love. Love God above all things, love your neighbors, and also love those who consider you as an enemy.

10 APR 2014 · Offering God sacrifices as a way of thanking Him for all He has done for you is a commendable and good thing. However, the greatest offering that we can offer God is loving Him with all our heart, soul and mind. Also, of equal importance to God is that we shall love others as He loves us. For in reality, God is not looking for external or outward expressions of thankfulness or love. Instead He wants our heart, not in part, but fully. So I invite you to look at your life and if their is anyone you are not loving, ask the Lord of mercy to help you love them. Here is todays Morning Prayer

10 APR 2014 · Sacred Heart of Jesus, to spend one minute with you is better than spending a lifetime doing whatever it is that we enjoy the most. Nothing compares to you Lord Christ. Come Holy Spirit, cleanse me, purify me. Allow me to come closer to you, so that I may serve you better each day. Let my prayers be inspired by you so that they may give you glory.
