Committed to advancing social justice, he actively works to dismantle barriers that threaten democracy. Post-Colgate, he pursued further education, earning a Masters in Business Administration from American Intercontinental University and a Doctorate in Leadership and Education with a specialization in Exceptional Student Education from Barry University. During his time at Colgate, he made history by becoming the first African American elected as Student Government Association Vice-President, following a successful freshman year. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and African/Latin American Studies in 1995, and later obtained his Masters of Arts in Teaching in Secondary School Social Studies in 1997.

During his student years, his activism, along with the efforts of other students, directly contributed to the establishment of Colgate's Cultural Center. In addition to his academic pursuits, Mr. Giles was also an active student athlete, participating on the basketball team, and ultimately earning his Bachelor of Arts degree.
