Mastiff might as well be the canine head of Cerberus, the three headed guardian of hell, because their music takes you deep into the abyss by way of it's dissonant and powerful riffs. Mastiff is just one of those bands. When you hear their music, the first words out of your mouth will typically be... Of course they are.
Phil Johnson, the rhythm guitar player of this powerful musical unit, is one of the kindest, sweetest men I have ever met while doing my show. It seems to be commonplace that the nicest guys in the music business are the purveyors of the sludgiest, angriest music on the planet. Perhaps it's because they have nothing to lose? Time will tell.
