Why I Love Rubystina

Why I Love Rubystina
Oct 25, 2020 · 42m 33s
I dig into why Rubystina (Ruby and Christina from HBO's Lovecraft Country) appeals to me, including overarching themes, representation for women like me, character dynamics, and narrative potential.

@Kristin Good choice! Since the show establishes that magic and a multiverse are tangible realities, everything you create is canon anyway.

@Kirstin Thanks for your comment. And I feel ya about being a plus-size Black lesbian. I'm so disappointed by how many possible directions their relationship could've gone in but didn't because the showrunner, writers, and audience couldn't see beyond heteronormativity.

@FyreFox666: Thanks for your comment. I agree that it was such a wasted opportunity to start and have deeper, more nuanced conversations about gender and sexuality, especially when you factor in race. Also, the writers and showrunner can say all they want about what this or that means, but what was on the screen was two women who clearly loved each other and would have been good for one another (or terrible, depending on the outcome). But they wasted that shining opportunity (and the scorching chemistry between Wunmi Mosaku and Abbey Lee).
