There are lessons to be learned from the noise involving the NBA’s sticky situation with China. And it has little to do with Rockets GM Daryl Morey, but it’s a cautionary tale of what happens when people who aren’t aware of their social media influence make statements that cause outrage. There’s always a sense of entitlement when people supposedly step out of line.
No one wants athletes to stick to sports, because we as fans as well as detractors love it when people who are wealthy or possess some measure of fame and fortune make mistakes… it’s easier to tear people down when they come from a place of higher ground. We love them when they serve a purpose, but when they “step out of line”, we’re the first ones to set them and their beliefs and their lives on fire.
