Billy: Hello everyone. Get ready to tune into the CAT BEAR podcast with Gail Nobles.

Gail: (Music and singing) Hello Everybody! It's 65 degrees! ... "The Rubberband Man", A song by The Spinners! Hey Podcasters! We're not radio, but we can remember music too, and lift up our favorite artists. We love the vocal group, The Spinners. The song evolved from being about "The Fat Man" to "The Rubberband Man". The song was released in 1976.

The Rubberband Man was written by producer Thom Bell and singer songwriter Linda Creed. It was about Bell's son, who was being teased by his classmates for being overweight. Intended to improve his son's self-image, the song was changed from The Fat Man to Rubberband Man. The song topped the US R&B chart at the end of 1976. It's interesting how some songs were written and what inspired the writers to write them.

The Rubberband man is a fantastic song. It's a song that you can feel. Makes you tap your feet and get down.

Philippe Wynne, the lead singer of the Spinners would say, "Sometimes when you feel it moving all in your feet. Makes you move! Got to get that groove! ..." He was an exciting singer. Philippe Wynne would step out into the audience, and he would move with soul.

I'm Gail Nobles and today's song is The Rubberband Man on The CAT BEAR.
