When the state rests its case in a trial, it means that the prosecution has finished presenting its evidence and witnesses in support of the charges against the defendant. The state is essentially indicating to the judge and jury that it has presented all the evidence it believes is necessary to prove the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

After the state rests, the defense may have the opportunity to present its case, which can include evidence and witnesses in support of the defendant's innocence. Alternatively, the defense may choose to rest its case as well, in which case the trial proceeds to closing arguments and then to the jury's deliberation and verdict as we have seen in the Lori Vallow trial.

In this episode we take a look at the shocking development and why Lori Vallow and her team chose to rest their case without providing any evidence to the jury on her behalf.
