Story Transcript:

Ga: Bhí lá geal grianmhar amuigh ach bhí an ghaoth ag séideadh go láidir ar na hAillte Móire.
En: The sun was shining brightly outside, but the wind was blowing strongly on the Cliffs of Moher.

Ga: Bhí Finnegan ina sheasamh ar bharr an chnoic, ag breathnú amach thar an aigéan.
En: Finnegan was standing on the top of the hill, looking out over the ocean.

Ga: D’ardaigh sé a hata d’aonghnó chun a éadan a scriosadh, ach go tobann, sheol an ghaoth é as a lámha, agus thosaigh sé ag preabadh síos na haille.
En: He raised his hat to scratch his forehead, but suddenly, the wind snatched it from his hands, and it started bouncing down the cliffs.

Ga: “Mo hata!
En: "My hat!"

Ga: ” arsa Finnegan, agus é ag féachaint air ag imeacht leis an ghaoth.
En: exclaimed Finnegan, watching it being carried away by the wind.

Ga: Thug Maeve faoi deara é freisin agus ghlaoigh sí ar a cara Cillian.
En: Maeve also noticed it and called out to her friend Cillian.

Ga: “Féach!
En: "Look!

Ga: Tá hata Finnegan ag imeacht leis!
En: Finnegan's hat is being carried away!

Ga: Caithfimid é a bhailiú sula dtitfidh sé san fharraige!
En: We have to retrieve it before it falls into the sea!"

Ga: ”Rith Maeve in éineacht le Cillian síos an cosán go contúirteach i ndiaidh an hata.
En: Maeve ran along with Cillian down the path, perilously chasing after the hat.

Ga: Bhí an ghaoth ag séideadh timpeall orthu agus iad ag léim ó charraig go carraig.
En: The wind was swirling around them as they leaped from rock to rock.

Ga: Ag gach casadh sa chosán, shíl Maeve go mbeadh siad in ann an hata a fháil ar ais, ach chríochnaigh gach iarracht acu le hata Finnegan ag dul níos gaire don imeall.
En: At every turn in the path, Maeve thought they might be able to retrieve the hat, but every attempt to get closer to Finnegan’s hat ended up closer to the edge.

Ga: Tháinig Finnegan i ndiaidh an bheirt acu agus é ag scairteadh, “Bígí cúramach!
En: Finnegan caught up with the two of them and shouted, "Be careful!

Ga: Ná cailligí bhur mbeatha thar mo hata!
En: Don't risk your lives over my hat!"

Ga: ”D’fhéach Maeve agus Cillian ar a chéile, ansin rinne siad cinneadh cróga.
En: Maeve and Cillian looked at each other, then made a brave decision.

Ga: Sheas Maeve go diongbháilte agus rug sí ar fréamh a bhí ag fás as an talamh.
En: Maeve stood firmly and grabbed onto a root growing out of the earth.

Ga: Shín Cillian a lámh amach agus d’fhéadtar a rá gur tharraing an deireadh leis, mar tháinig an hata in airde ina láimh díreach roimh a dtitfeadh sé thar imeall na haille.
En: Cillian reached out his hand, and it could be said that the end came to it, as the hat was caught in his hand just before it would fall over the cliff's edge.

Ga: D’éalaigh an triúr acu ag gáire faoin eachtra, agus bhíothas in ann iadsan, an hata, agus a gcairdeas a thabhairt ar ais go sábháilte go barr na hAillte Móire.
En: The three of them laughed about the incident, and they were able to return the hat and their friendship safely to the top of the Cliffs of Moher.

Ga: Oíche sin, bhí scéalta greannmhara agus gáire le cloisteáil timpeall na tine, agus hata Finnegan ina sheasamh go bródúil ar an tábla, mar laoch an lae.
En: That night, there were funny stories and laughter to be heard around the fire, and Finnegan's hat stood proudly on the table, like the hero of the day.
