Story Transcript:

Ja: 東京の雑多な街で、一部屋の照明が優しく揺らぐ居酒屋がありました。この栄えある老舗には、夏樹という一人の客が初めて訪れました。夏樹は、外見こそ普通の青年ではありましたが、一つだけ奇妙な特性がありました。それは、箸の使い方を知らない、ということでした。
En: In the diverse streets of Tokyo, there was a cozy izakaya where the lighting gently swayed. A customer named Natsuki visited this prestigious establishment for the first time. Though Natsuki appeared to be an ordinary young man, he had one peculiar trait. He did not know how to use chopsticks.

Ja: 何事にも試みる勇気がある夏樹は、一皿の漂う寿司を前に、箸を縦に握りました。彼の目は箸の先と寿司の間で行き来し、皆が「おいしい」と讃える日本の伝統食を、箸で掴むことへの意欲が滲んでいました。
En: With the courage to try anything, Natsuki held the chopsticks vertically in front of a plate of floating sushi. His eyes moved back and forth between the chopstick tips and the sushi, the desire to grasp the traditional Japanese food that everyone praised with chopsticks oozing from his determination.

Ja: 慣れない箸の持ち方がきっと災いしたのでしょう。彼は寿司を掴もうとした瞬間、力が入り過ぎてしまったのです。箸に挟まれた寿司は、部屋の向こう側に向かって勢いよく飛ばされました。
En: Perhaps his unfamiliarity with wielding chopsticks caused trouble. In the instant he attempted to grab the sushi, he applied too much force. The sushi, clamped between the chopsticks, flew forcefully towards the other side of the room.

Ja: 一同の会話が急に止み、寿司が飛んだ後の空気は重く静まり返りました。しかし、その重たい沈黙を破ったのは、居酒屋の主人の笑顔でした。主人の温かな笑顔に、他の客たちも次々と笑いをこぼし、居酒屋は再び活気を取り戻しました。
En: The conversation among the group suddenly ceased, and the air after the sushi flew became heavy and still. However, it was the smile of the izakaya owner that shattered the weighty silence. As the warm smile spread across the owner's face, other customers began to laugh one by one, and the izakaya regained its liveliness.

Ja: 夏樹は恥ずかしそうに笑い、主人に謝罪しました。すると主人は「箸の使い方は難しい。だけど、ちゃんと覚えれば必ずできるようになる、それまで続けてみな！」と励ますのでした。
En: Natsuki laughed shyly and apologized to the owner. In response, the owner encouraged him, saying, "Using chopsticks is difficult. But if you learn it properly, you'll definitely be able to do it. Keep trying until then!"

Ja: その言葉を受けた夏樹は、断じて諦めず、箸の使い方を覚えるために繰り返し繰り返し練習しました。そして、何度も失敗を繰り返し、ついには寿司を箸で上手に食べることができるようになりました。
En: Inspired by those words, Natsuki never gave up. He practiced using chopsticks repeatedly. After numerous failures, he finally became skilled at eating sushi with chopsticks.

Ja: そして夏樹が再度その居酒屋を訪れた日、クルクルと箸で寿司を転がし、口元へと運ぶその姿を見た客たちは皆、彼の努力を称えました。
En: And on the day Natsuki visited the izakaya again, customers who witnessed him rolling the sushi with his chopsticks and bringing it to his mouth all praised his effort.
