Story Transcript:

Da: Én solrig eftermiddag sidder Lars ved sit yndlingssted i Kongens Have. Frokosten ligger tungt i maven. Lars overvejer hurtigt men beslutter i stedet at swinge til siden for at undgå dem. Men.. oh nej! Alt går i stå.
En: On a sunny afternoon, Lars sits at his favorite spot in Kongens Have. He enjoys his lunch: faithful to his daily cheese sandwich and a soft mandarin, considering the season. He sits there daily, observing people, pigeons, and the changing light over the familiar buildings. But this day is different. Lars has forgotten his bike helmet. "Oh, not again," Lars mutters. He has a habit of forgetting things. Especially his helmet. Lars knows it's important to protect his head, but he just can't remember it every time. He shakes his head and decides to ride home without a helmet, just this one time. Lars swings onto his bike, a loyal green one at that, and begins his journey home. Through Kongens Have, amidst joggers, mothers with strollers, and elderly ladies with their knitting, he pedals hard. The lunch weighs heavily in his stomach. Lars swerves onto the street and now approaches the large fountain at Amagertorv. In that moment, as he approaches the fountain, he sees them: a group of tourists taking pictures and chatting loudly. They are blocking the bike path. Should he shout, should he ring the bell? Lars considers quickly but decides instead to veer to the side to avoid them. But... oh no! That was not at all what Lars expected. He rides straight through the fountain! Everything comes to a halt. Water sprays up, Lars flails, his bike skids beneath him, and his cheese sandwich flies through the air. He can do nothing but cling onto the bike. Well, how embarrassing. Lars removes his wet glasses and wipes them on his shirt. He looks around, hoping that no one has noticed his mishap. But yes, the many tourists are standing and laughing, taking pictures, laughing even more. They probably thought it was part of a show, a piece of authentic Danish humor. Lars smiles faintly, gets up, and tightens the brakes on his bike. He doesn't want to make the same mistake twice. He lifts the bike, brushes dirt off his pants, and continues his journey home. For the rest of the trip, he had to listen to the tourists laughing and applauding. That day, Lars learned a valuable lesson: no matter how busy you are, never forget your bike helmet, and always take a deep breath when you see tourists on the bike path. It became a story he could tell over and over again with a laugh, every time he saw a fountain. And perhaps he also became somewhat famous among tourists in Copenhagen: the picture taken in the moment when Lars rides through the fountain was shared over and over again on social media as an example of Danish humor and became part of tourists' experience of Copenhagen.
