OVERCOMER CHARACTER PROFILE -- COACH JOHN HARRISON

Coach John Harrison is a winning basketball coach in a small town whose identity is rocked when the town faces a sudden financial crisis. John is a husband and father; however, his coaching career is his main priority and when that becomes threatened, he begins grappling with his own identity. Coach Harrison is forced to take on new roles at the high school taking him out of his comfort zone, including being assigned as the new cross-country coach. Though John

is frustrated about his new role, he develops a bond with his only runner, a girl named Hannah (Wright-Thompson).

“John Harrison probably is representative of any middle America guy in a small town-he has a family and a job and may find too much of himself in his work and not enough in the Creator that made him. John would call himself a good

person. He wants to be a good dad, husband and a very successful worker. But he has his identity out of order,” said Alex Kendrick.

“As a Christian, he would say that the Lord is important to him, but if you were to watch his life you would see that his coaching opportunities, his championship run, is what he identifies with the most. Over the course of this film we see how that has to be reordered.”
