The Lone Ranger #903, "Sheriff Vic," opens with Sheriff Vic Adler facing a devastating dilemma when Doc Mackenzie delivers grim news about his wife Mary's illness. She needs specialized medical treatment in a big city that will cost at least two thousand dollars, far beyond what the honest lawman can afford on his meager sheriff's wages. Despite his twenty years of dedicated service, the local banker and other townspeople refuse to lend Vic the money he desperately needs to save his wife's life. Meanwhile, Tonto spots a suspicious character in town and alerts the Lone Ranger, who suspects the man might be the notorious outlaw Wolf Corby.
The situation takes a darker turn when Corby and his lieutenant Squint visit the sheriff's office with a corrupt proposition. Corby offers Vic a thousand dollars in cash with another thousand to follow, requiring only that the sheriff look the other way when Corby's gang commits crimes in the county. As the desperate sheriff wrestles with his conscience, weighing his wife's life against his two decades of integrity, the stage is set for a gripping test of character and justice.
