With the imminent release of A Different Shade of Blue on August 23, Knocked Loose lead guitarist Isaac Hale sat down to run HEAVY through the new album plus other happenings within the Knocked Loose camp.
"As far as the record as a whole goes I'd say it's probably the best representation of what Knocked Loose is in the current moment", he declared. "Musically, we didn't try to break any boundaries or go outside of what the idea of the band already is because it's a super fucken heavy band and it's always gonna be a super fucken heavy band. That's the whole point, but we just tried to put that across in different ways and be creative enough to say that we're up to date with what's going on with a fresh sound that we're excited about but without changing the idea of the band as a whole".
Critics are already calling the new album a massive step forward for the band, but Hale says while comments like that are flattering to hear, that doesn't necessarily mean they are something the band takes as gospel.
"It's hard for me to say", he laughed. "It's moreso exactly what I want Knocked Loose to be at this moment in time. When we're writing music we're not doing it like we're breaking boundaries or changing the game in any way - that's not what it's about - what it's about is writing music that we're confident in; that we love, because that's the whole point. We're trying to write music that we are super proud of and I think that we did accomplish that with this record".
In the full interview Isaac discusses recording albums in live track style and the benefits of it, the songwriting process, who the guest artists are on the new album and what they bring to the music, the album cover, how Knocked Loose have changed musically over the course of the career, how he rates Australian bands including how they stack up against their international counterparts, the possibility of an Australian tour and more.
