In the summer of 1985, Richard Ramirez terrorized Los Angeles County and surrounding areas, killing thirteen people and attacking many more before a single fingerprint and a community of residents brought him to a halt. Convicted in 1989, Ramirez died in 2013 without providing investigators a full accounting of his attacks, and the true number of victims he claimed across California and beyond remains uncertified. The case exposed critical failures in cross-jurisdictional coordination that California has worked to address, but the families of victims never received the complete answers they were owed.

Anyone with information about possible additional victims connected to Richard Ramirez is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department cold case unit at 323-890-5500.
