To retrace, through art, the birth of the State of Israel and its deep connection with Italy, which was powerfully revealed thanks to the cultural ferment that characterized our country in the postwar period.

With this in mind, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the proclamation of the State of Israel, the Jewish Community of Rome and the Foundation for the Jewish Museum of Rome, in collaboration with the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, present the exhibition “Rome 1948 – Italian Art Toward Israel”, curated by Davide Spagnoletto and Giorgia Calò, open to the public from April 27 to October 10, 2023.

Thanks to an exceptional loan from the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, a selection of about twenty works by painters and sculptors who in the aftermath of the proclamation of the State of Israel took the lead in an initiative that will go down in history: the “Exhibition of Art Pro-New State of Israel,” an exhibition that took place between June 15 and 25, 1948 in the Galleria d’Arte Antica Palazzo Torlonia.

In this podcast’s episode, curators Giorgia Calò and Davide Spagnoletto further deepen "Rome 1948 – Italian Art Toward Israel" telling us how the idea of this exhibition was born, the works shown in the Jewish Museum in Rome, and so much more.

A real journey through art to relive that atmosphere of solidarity and participation that characterized the birth of the Jewish state.
