Olivia Sperber on the Song That Turns Anxiety Into Hope

Sitting beside a creek during a prayer walk at summer camp, Olivia Sperber found the words that would become Winds, Waves and Worries. What started as a quiet moment with God grew into a song about anxiety, fear, and learning not to let every worry take control.

Olivia joins Matthew Rix to share the story behind the new single “Winds, Waves & Worries”, why its message is so personal, and how it represents a bigger, bolder, and more confident chapter in Olivia’s music.

She opens up about the all-or-nothing mindset and fear of failure that held her back for years, and how this song became both a creative breakthrough and a reminder that not every worry gets to stay forever.
We discuss her studio experience this time around, including recording in Nashville with producer Taylor Bialy, learning to adapt to new collaborators, and leaning into a more upbeat folk-pop sound that feels very different from her earlier single, “Dare to Have Faith”. Matthew also tees up what’s next, from the music video dropping alongside the song to new merch, more recorded tracks waiting in the wings, and bigger projects Olivia says have been on her heart for a long time.

Olivia also gets real about how she manages anxiety now: prayer, grounded routines, Scripture, trusted people who know her story, and the courage to stop hiding behind a “perfect” version of herself. If you need encouragement, a faith-forward perspective on mental health, or want to hear an artist stepping into her voice with more conviction, this conversation will stay with you.
