If you're expecting a film about a baseball-playing gorilla to be a light-hearted romp in the vein of Air Bud, think again: Mr. Go has more to offer than a few guffaws. Directed by Kim Yong-hwa, it stars Xu Jiao as the young girl who teaches a gorilla to play baseball and Sung Dong-il as the manager who exploits them both. It's a tonally mismatched tale and not your typical animals-playing-sports film, not at all. We dig into the film, how it compares to other sports films, and its tonal problems.
Award-winning director Maggie the Odd joins Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, to talk Mr. Go, sports movies, baseball-playing gorillas, and so much more.
