Story Transcript:

He: תל אביב! עיר שלא מרגיעה, שלא ממש מספיקה לנשום, אך כל דקה בה היא מילה משלה. איפה אתה נמצא בתל אביב? הם נמצאים ברחוב "גולדה", מסעדת "כיבות זהב", פינת הפלאפל המפורסמת בעיר.
En: Tel Aviv! A city that never rests, that never seems to have enough air to breathe, yet every minute in it has its own story. Where are you in Tel Aviv? They are on "Golda" Street, at the famous "Kibbutz Zahav" restaurant, the renowned falafel corner in the city.

He: אבי, טליה, ויוסף ישבים סביב שולחן עגול. הייתה להם יום ארוך של תיירות בעיר. הם היו צריכים להתאושש. עייפות ממשיכה במוסכמותיהם, החל מעיניהם ועד לראשי אצבעות רגליהם.
En: Avi, Talia, and Yosef sat around a round table. They had a long day of sightseeing in the city. They needed to recover. Fatigue persisted in their bodies, from their eyes to the tips of their toes.

He: אבי היה הראשון להזמין. "אחד פלאפל, מלא סלט, ללא צ'ילי, בבקשה", הוא אמר. המלצר ניפץ מאחורי הדלפק, מתקף מסוכן שלא להפוך להתייעץ בעיה בתרגום שלו. הם סדרו את הכמות, הוסיפו חלפית, וחזר להקפיא את שלו בשכבה דקה של חומוס.
En: Avi was the first to order. "One falafel, full salad, no chili, please," he said. The server nodded behind the counter, risking becoming a contemplation for his translation problem. They settled the amount, added the pita bread, and he returned to freezing his own in a thin layer of hummus.

En: Then it was Yosef's turn. "I want... um... a hamburger," he whispered with a wholehearted determination, while trying to overcome his language stumbling block. "Are you sure?" called the server from behind the counter, putting on his frozen Chinese gloves.

He: “אה, לא, רק פשוט... ניסיון להגיד, um... פ-פלאפל?” בחיוך נמוך הוא נישק את המילים. התקנוס הקפיץ, מחכים להתגובה של הבחורה הבאה. עבורו, זה היה כמו הכיתה של ראשוני תיכון בין מכשול מנדה אל מכשול מנדה. עוד רגע בחריש, וטליה פתאום נפוצה בצחוק.
En: "Uh, no, just a simple... attempt to say, um... falafel?" with a slight smile, he kissed the words. The server's antennae perked up, waiting for the next person's reaction. For him, it was like a high school classroom between Mendel's obstacle and Mendel's obstacle. A brief pause, and Talia suddenly burst into laughter.

Talia couldn't stop laughing and warned Yosef that there were no corrections for food guesses. But on the face of the man behind the counter, there was a low smile, as he already understood the translation of the word "falafel."

He: עניין עוברים בחיים, ממה שאנו מדמיינים לדרך התיאלות. עין גולשת באמת, אבל תרגום של זה, תרגיל משולש מסובך, מתבקש. בסופו של דבר, על-פני יוסף מתהדר בחלום הפלאפל שלו, הטליה עדיין לועגת опера החייל ואבי מחייך בתסכול. הסיפור מסתיים במקום השקט שבתוך הרועש של העיר אשר לעולם לא הפסיקה להתקיים.
En: Interesting things happen in life, different from what we imagine through the path of assumptions. A truly curious eye, but the translation of it, a complex triangular exercise, is requested. In the end, Yosef proudly boasts his falafel dream, Talia still mocks the soldier's opera, and Avi smiles with frustration. The story ends in the quiet place within the noise of the city that never ceased to exist.
