Jack Frost is a short poem that turns a frosty winter morning into a small mystery. A child wakes to find the windows silvered over, though the door stayed shut all night. Who crept in without a word? Line by line, the poem unveils the icy drawings on the glass: castles, knights with nodding plumes, ships under full sail, palm trees and butterflies. Each picture hints that the visitor has been peeking into the sleeper's dreams.
