Indra Kumar's Ishq is a love square at two hours and forty minutes. Best friends Raja and Ajay, played by Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn, fall for Kajol's Kajal and Juhi Chawla's Madhu, while two fathers scheme to keep rich and poor apart. The film swings between peaks and valleys, with rooftop stunts that look done without a net and a broken-statue gag straight out of Spaceballs. Should it have gone fully over the top instead of grounding its contrivances in reality?
The Bollywood Cinema Club's Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, and Heather Drain (Noise Junkies) talk the tonal whiplash, a plot that hinges on one friend believing everyone but the other, stunts worthy of Jackie Chan, villain fathers who are awful without being fun, Aamir as second lead to Ajay Devgn, the orange suit in Mr. Lova Lova, and the film that seemingly led Ajay and Kajol to marry two years later.
