Génesis 38: Degradación de un escogido por Dios.

Génesis 38:13-23:
Y avisaron a Tamar diciendo: —He aquí que tu suegro sube a Timnat a esquilar sus ovejas.
Entonces ella se quitó su vestido de viudez, se cubrió con un velo, se envolvió con un manto y se sentó a la entrada de Enaim, que está junto al camino de Timnat, porque veía que Sela había crecido, pero que ella no le había sido dada por mujer. Entonces la vio Judá y pensó que era una prostituta, porque había cubierto su cara. Y se apartó del camino hacia ella y le dijo: —Ven y deja que me una a ti.
Pues no sabía que ella era su nuera. Y ella dijo: —¿Qué me darás si te unes a mí?
Él respondió: —Yo te enviaré un cabrito del rebaño.
Ella le dijo: —Tienes que darme una prenda hasta que me lo envíes.
Y él le dijo: —¿Qué prenda te daré?
Ella le respondió: —Tu anillo, tu cordón y el bastón que llevas en la mano.
Él se los dio y se unió a ella, y ella concibió de él.
Luego ella se levantó y se fue. Después se quitó el velo que tenía sobre sí y se vistió de nuevo con su vestido de viudez. Judá envió el cabrito del rebaño por medio de su amigo el adulamita, para que recuperara la prenda de mano de la mujer, pero él no la halló. Entonces preguntó a los hombres de aquel lugar diciendo: —¿Dónde está la prostituta de Enaim, junto al camino?
Ellos le dijeron: —Aquí no hay ninguna prostituta.
Él se volvió a Judá y dijo: —No la he hallado. También los hombres del lugar dijeron: “Aquí no hay ninguna prostituta”.
Y Judá dijo: —¡Que se quede con la prenda! No seamos objeto de burla. He aquí yo le he enviado este cabrito, pero tú no la has hallado.


Este capítulo es dedicado a explicar la vida de Judá y cómo sufrió varios eventos trágicos causados por sus malas decisiones.
Él decidió alejarse de la casa de su padre y escogió habitar con un cananeo, asociándose con personas que no compartían sus principios ni tradiciones, y quizá practicando la adoración a ídolos. Además, escogió como su pareja a una mujer cananea y no una de su parentela como Isaac y Jacob lo hicieron, rompiendo con el orden familiar de no mezclarse con personas de las naciones de Canaán. Es claro aquí que Judá decidió alejarse del Dios de sus padres. Sus hijos no fueron criados con el temor de Dios y sus vidas no fueron íntegras. Por eso perdieron sus vidas. Esto es señal de que Judá debía haber guiado a sus hijos por ser descendientes y elegidos por Dios, pero no honraron al Señor. Después vemos que Judá también perdió a su esposa.
Él vio una prostituta, sin saber que era su nuera que estaba disfrazada, acudió a ella; señal de la degradación moral de Judá. Él le ofreció un cabrito como pago y, mientras él le traía el cabrito, ella le pidió 3 cosas como garantía: el sello, el cordón y el báculo o bastón.
El sello era y es todavía necesario para marcar documentos legales, es el nombre de la persona siendo registrado en asuntos importantes, es su identidad. El cordón era, posiblemente, el lazo que servía para sostener el manto, como una correa, señal de responsabilidad y seriedad. Y el bastón era un instrumento de trabajo para guiar ovejas pero también para caminar en lugares difíciles. Estas cosas eran muy necesarias: lo identificaban como persona, eran sus herramientas de trabajo para su sustento y simbolizaban autoridad. Judá entregó su dignidad por un rato de placer.

Hoy quiero que meditemos en cómo Judá se fue degradando espiritualmente. Esto trajo inmoralidad a su casa, lo cual trajo tragedias de dolor y muerte. Judá, en su rebeldía y altivez, sufrió muchas consecuencias vergonzosas ante Dios y los habitantes de la tierra.
Cuídate de tomar decisiones drásticas que te aparten de Dios. Si has hecho un pacto con Dios, vas a ser responsable de este pacto, aunque te alejes del Señor. Estés donde estés, Dios te demandará cualquier clase de comportamiento y acciones que decidas hacer.
Mantente firme en tus convicciones, en tu fe, cuida el pacto que Dios ha hecho contigo, como dijo Jesús en Lucas 12:48: "Porque de todo aquel a quien le ha sido dado mucho, mucho se demandará de él; y de aquel a quien confiaron mucho, se le pedirá más."

Genesis 38:13-23:
And it was told Tamar, saying, “Look, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep.” So she took off her widow’s garments, covered herself with a veil and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place which was on the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given to him as a wife. When Judah saw her, he thought she was a harlot, because she had covered her face. Then he turned to her by the way, and said, “Please let me come in to you”; for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. So she said, “What will you give me, that you may come in to me?” And he said, “I will send a young goat from the flock.” So she said, “Will you give me a pledge till you send it?” Then he said, “What pledge shall I give you?” So she said, “Your signet and cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” Then he gave them to her, and went in to her, and she conceived by him. So she arose and went away, and laid aside her veil and put on the garments of her widowhood. And Judah sent the young goat by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand, but he did not find her. Then he asked the men of that place, saying, “Where is the harlot who was openly by the roadside?” And they said, “There was no harlot in this place.” So he returned to Judah and said, “I cannot find her. Also, the men of the place said there was no harlot in this place.” Then Judah said, “Let her take them for herself, lest we be shamed; for I sent this young goat and you have not found her.”


This chapter is dedicated to explaining the life of Judah and how he suffered various tragic events caused by his bad decisions.
He decided to move away from his father's house and chose to live with a Canaanite, associating with people who did not share his principles or traditions, and perhaps practicing idol worship. Furthermore, he chose a Canaanite woman as his wife and not one of his kindred as Isaac and Jacob did, breaking the family order of not mixing with people from the nations of Canaan. It is clear here that Judah decided to distance himself from the God of his parents. His children were not raised in the fear of God and their lives were not whole. For that they lost their lives. This is a sign that Judah should have guided his children because they were descendants and chosen by God, but they did not honor the lord.
Later we see that Judah also lost his wife. He saw a prostitute, not knowing that it was her daughter-in-law who was disguised, he went to her; a sign of Judah's moral degradation. He offered her a young goat as payment and, while he brought her the young goat, she asked him for 3 things as a guarantee: the seal (signet), the cord and the staff or cane.
The seal was and is still necessary to mark legal documents, it is the name of the person being registered in important matters, it is his identity. The cord was, possibly, the loop that served to hold the mantle, like a strap, a sign of responsibility and seriousness. And the cane was a work instrument to guide sheep but also to walk in difficult places. These things were very necessary: ​​they identified him as a person, they were his work tools for his livelihood and they symbolized authority. Judah gave up his dignity for a moment of pleasure.

Today I want us to meditate on how Judah degraded spiritually. This brought immorality to his house, which brought tragedies ofpain and death. Judah, in his rebellion and haughtiness, suffered many shameful consequences before God and the inhabitants of the land.
Beware of making drastic decisions that separate you from God. If you have made a covenant with God, you will be responsible for this covenant, even if you walk away from the Lord. Wherever you are, God will demand of you whatever kind of behavior and actions you decide to do.
Stand firm in your convictions, in your faith, take care of the pact that God has made with you, as Jesus said in Luke 12:48: "For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more."
