Este es un capítulo lleno de emociones. Vemos la descripción de una guerra, el rescate valeroso de Abraham a su sobrino Lot. No olvides leer el capítulo completo. Hoy vamos a estudiar la última parte de este capítulo.
Génesis 14:12-24 RVA-2015:
12 También llevaron consigo a Lot, el hijo del hermano de Abram, junto con sus posesiones (porque Lot habitaba en Sodoma), y se fueron. 13 Pero uno de los que escaparon fue y lo contó a Abram el hebreo, que habitaba en el encinar de Mamre el amorreo, hermano de Escol y hermano de Aner, quienes eran aliados de Abram.
14 Cuando Abram oyó que su sobrino había sido tomado cautivo, reclutó a sus trescientos dieciocho criados nacidos en su casa, y los persiguió hasta Dan. 15 Los atacó de noche, él con sus siervos, los derrotó y los persiguió hasta Hoba, que está al norte de Damasco. 16 Así recobró todos los bienes y también recobró a su sobrino Lot, sus bienes, y también a las mujeres y a la gente.
17 Cuando Abram volvía de derrotar a Quedarlaomer y a los reyes que estaban con él, el rey de Sodoma salió a su encuentro en el valle de Savé, que es el valle del Rey. 18 También Melquisedec, rey de Salem, quien era sacerdote del Dios Altísimo, sacó pan y vino, 19 y lo bendijo diciendo: “Bendito sea Abram del Dios Altísimo, creador de los cielos y de la tierra. 20 Bendito sea el Dios Altísimo, que entregó a tus enemigos en tus manos”.
Y Abram le dio a él el diezmo de todo. 21 Entonces el rey de Sodoma dijo a Abram: —Dame las personas, y toma para ti los bienes.
22 Abram respondió al rey de Sodoma: —He hecho votos al SEÑOR, el Dios Altísimo, creador de los cielos y de la tierra, 23 que no tomaré ni un hilo ni la correa de un calzado, nada de todo lo que es tuyo, para que no digas después: “Yo enriquecí a Abram”. 24 Yo no tomaré nada, excepto lo que han comido los jóvenes y la parte de los hombres que fueron conmigo: Aner, Escol y Mamre. Ellos sí tomarán su parte.
Después que Abram organizó un grupo de valientes y rescató a miles de personas de otras naciones derrotadas, Abram tuvo un encuentro con un sacerdote: Melquisedec. Abram le dio los diezmos de sus ganancias y recibió la bendición que le dio el sacerdote de pan y vino.
Cuando estudiamos más a fondo acerca de este personaje, encontramos que la Biblia hace mención varias veces de este sacerdote. En el salmo 110 nos muestra que el sacerdocio eterno no proviene del sacerdocio de Aarón sino de Melquisedec.
Más adelante, en Hebreos 7, se nos revela que Jesucristo viene del linaje sacerdotal de Melquisedec, personaje misterioso que no tiene registro de ascendencia y descendencia, ni principio ni fin. Es muy simbólico que él le dio a Abram pan y vino, símbolos bíblicos de la carne y la sangre derramada de Jesucristo. Jesús dijo que el que no bebe su sangre ni come su carne no podrá obtener vida eterna.
También aprendemos que dar los diezmos no es una práctica exclusiva basada en la ley de Moisés; esto es un acto de fe, de agradecimiento a Dios por sus bendiciones. Así como nosotros somos parte del linaje de Abraham por la fe y recibimos las bendiciones de Dios que le prometió a Abraham, igualmente nosotros debemos diezmar asimismo como un acto de fe y de acción de gracias.
Abram estaba convencido de que Dios fue el que lo guardó del peligro y lo bendijo con mucha abundancia y posesiones. Es por eso que rechaza el botín de guerra y la recompensa que Sodoma le quería dar. Él rechazó cualquier clase de honra o pago proveniente del rey de Sodoma; él no quería que nadie dijera que había enriquecido a Abram cuando realmente era el Señor quien bendecía a Abram.
Rechaza cualquier tentación del enemigo, queriendo robarle la gloria que le pertenece al Señor. Nunca hagas tratos con el enemigo. Es mejor dar al Señor que recibir del enemigo. Es mejor lo que ofrece el Señor que las ofertas del adversario. Es mejor el pan y el vino (la salvación y vida eterna) que las recompensas que el mundo te quiere ofrecer.
Escudriña:
Vuelve a leer la parte donde Abram se encuentra con Melquisedec y después con el rey de Sodoma. Después usa el método llamado PROBARLO, hagamos las preguntas y aprendamos de las respuestas.
Recuerda las series de preguntas que debemos hacernos con el acrónimo:
P – ¿Hay algún pecado que confesar?
A – ¿Hay una actitud que cambiar?
P – ¿Hay alguna promesa que reclamar?
A – ¿Hay algo por lo qué alabar a Dios?
M – ¿Hay un mandamiento para obedecer?

V – ¿Hay una verdad que creer?
E – ¿Hay algún ejemplo a seguir?

Genesis 14: Don't make a deal with the adversary.
This is a chapter full of emotions. We see the description of a war, Abraham's courageous rescue to his nephew Lot. Don't forget to read the whole chapter. Today we are going to study the last part of this chapter.
Genesis 14:12-24 NLT:
They also captured Lot—Abram’s nephew who lived in Sodom—and carried off everything he owned. But one of Lot’s men escaped and reported everything to Abram the Hebrew, who was living near the oak grove belonging to Mamre the Amorite. Mamre and his relatives, Eshcol and Aner, were Abram’s allies.
When Abram heard that his nephew Lot had been captured, he mobilized the 318 trained men who had been born into his household. Then he pursued Kedorlaomer’s army until he caught up with them at Dan. There he divided his men and attacked during the night. Kedorlaomer’s army fled, but Abram chased them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. Abram recovered all the goods that had been taken, and he brought back his nephew Lot with his possessions and all the women and other captives.
After Abram returned from his victory over Kedorlaomer and all his allies, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). And Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God Most High, brought Abram some bread and wine. Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing: “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And blessed be God Most High, who has defeated your enemies for you.”
Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the goods he had recovered. The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give back my people who were captured. But you may keep for yourself all the goods you have recovered.”
Abram replied to the king of Sodom, “I solemnly swear to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will not take so much as a single thread or sandal thong from what belongs to you. Otherwise you might say, ‘I am the one who made Abram rich.’ I will accept only what my young warriors have already eaten, and I request that you give a fair share of the goods to my allies—Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre.”
After Abram organized a group of brave men and rescued thousands of people from other defeated nations, Abram had an encounter with a priest: Melchizedek. Abram gave him the tithes of his earnings and received the blessing of the bread and wine given by the priest.
When we study more deeply about this character, we find that the Bible mentions this priest several times. In Psalm 110 it shows us that the eternal priesthood does not come from the Aaronic priesthood but from Melchizedek.
Later, in Hebrews 7, it is revealed to us that Jesus Christ comes from the priestly lineage of Melchizedek, a mysterious character who has no record of ancestry and descent, neither beginning nor end. Melchizedek represents the Messiah. Salem means peace, and Melchizedek means King of justice, also King of peace (Hebrews 7:2).
It is very symbolic that he gave Abram bread and wine, biblical symbols of the flesh and shed blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus said that whoever does not drink his blood or eat his flesh cannot obtain eternal life.
We also learn that giving tithes is not an exclusive practice based on the law of Moses; this is an act of faith, of gratitude to God for His blessings. Just as we are part of Abraham's lineage by faith and receive God's blessings that were promised to Abraham, so we should likewise tithe as an act of faith and thanksgiving.
Abram was convinced that God was the One who kept him from danger and blessed him with much abundance and possessions. That is why he rejects the spoils of war and the reward that Sodom wanted to give him. He refused any kind of honor or payment from the king of Sodom; he did not want anyone to say that he had made Abram rich when it was really the Lord who blessed Abram.
Reject any temptation of the enemy, wanting to steal the glory that belongs to the Lord. Never make deals with the enemy. It is better to give to the Lord than to receive from the enemy. What the Lord offers is better than the adversary's offers. Bread and wine (salvation and eternal life) are better than the rewards that the world wants to offer you.
Scrutinize:
Reread the part where Abram meets Melchizedek and then the king of Sodom. Then use the method called PROBE IT, let's ask the questions and learn from the answers.
Remember the series of questions that we must ask ourselves with the acronym:
S – Is there a sin to confess?
P – Is there a promise to claim?
A – Is there an attitude to change?
C – Is there a command to obey?
E – Is there an example to follow?
