This article highlights the journey of a welder‑turned lawmaker who is leveraging his blue‑collar background to advocate for nuclear weapons modernization as a way to create jobs and revitalize struggling communities. He argues that the massive infrastructure and technical work tied to nuclear bomb projects could provide stable employment, apprenticeships, and training for welders, machinists, electricians, and other skilled workers. His pitch reframes nuclear policy not just as a matter of national defense but also as an opportunity to support working‑class Americans, sparking debate between those who see it as pragmatic job creation and those who worry it normalizes reliance on weapons of mass destruction.
