Fermented foods contain probiotics, but is that enough to keep your gut healthy?Fermented foods are any foods that have been transformed by microbial means. This process also preserves the food to a degree.

Fermented foods may contain beneficial enzymes, B vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, and various strains of probiotics.

Probiotics are essential for a healthy gut microbiome, and aid in digestion and immunity. Some research is linking the reduction of anxiety to use of probiotics.

It would be difficult to fulfill your probiotic needs by only eating fermented foods.

Probiotic supplements can provide a higher "dose" of the healthy bacteria your gut needs to function properly.

Each probiotic strain acts uniquely and individually to help reduce the overflow of bad bacteria.

Listen in as Desiree Nielsen, BSc, RD, joins Andrea and Lisa to explain the difference between fermented foods and probiotic strains, as well as why it's important to incorporate probiotics into your daily regimen.
