In this captivating tale, Grace Ingalis, a spirited young woman from a middle-class socialite background, embarks on a whirlwind romance with a wealthy businessman she barely knows, having met him just weeks prior during a winter sailing trip to the West Indies. However, beneath the surface of her seemingly perfect life, tension brews as her envious older sister Lydia grapples with feelings of exclusion, while Grace herself is on the brink of a profound spiritual awakening. This story echoes the themes of social intricacies and personal discovery reminiscent of Edith Wharton, a family friend, through the lens of Halls art critic husband, Mr. Brownell. - Summary by BellonaTimes
