On June 19, 1953, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, New York, becoming the only civilians put to death for espionage in the United States during the Cold War. Decades after the trial, the key witness who placed Ethel in an operational role admitted he had lied, and declassified intercepts confirmed Julius ran a network while leaving Ethel's exact role unresolved. No court has vacated her conviction and no president has issued a posthumous exoneration.

Anyone with family documents or letters connected to the Rosenberg case is encouraged to contact the National Archives and Records Administration at 1-866-272-6272.
