Asher is named after the word Osher - happiness, once again, it's not the exact word, it's usually the root

So concerning the Esau pun you were waiting for. I just opened the verse where they're born and they mentioned he was names Esau cause he was hairy but I can't think of a root related to hair. The best I can think of is "Esev" - grass/weed, maybe something about growth, relating the growth of his hair to that of a weed

I have a tanakh studies test on Tuesday(it's a mandatory subject in Israel to get a high school diploma) and ironically enough I think catching up on the episodes I missed is going to be a great practice

...and we were told this story in Sunday school, when we were just a few years old...

It's so much fun to hear what someone who didn't grow up with the bible thinks about the stories. It helps me to see just how weird even stuff I kind of accept as reasonable for mythology really is. A couple of historical notes: Yes, Isaac is one of the three patriarchs along with Abraham and Jacob; and there's four matriarchs: Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leia. Also, the Hittites were not actually Canaanites: They were from Anatolia (modern Turkey) and spoke an Indo-European language (which makes their language actually a distant relative of English). They also had a bit of an empire on the ancient sense, meaning they didn't actually rule over other lands, but rather marched an army in to demand tribute periodically. My guess is that this part of Genesis was just written in a time when the Hittites were hanging around Canaan. Incidentally, I think this makes sense of the command to leave nothing alive when attacking Hittite villages: if there was any chance of a survivor getting word to the Hittite army, the Hebrews would be absolutely screwed.

I think that would make a perfect heading for something: "The Bible: a bit too wierd"

Puking was a pretty smart idea. 😃 I could have seen it working in the bible.
